[HeavyMetalHeaven] Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Bruce Dickinson, Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Slash, Megadeth, Cinderella, Ratt, Michael Schenkar and and tons more hard rock and heavy metal news

The Pulse of Radio reports: Ozzy Osbourne's recently published memoir, "I Am Ozzy", will be on its way to the big screen next year if Ozzy's wife and manager Sharon has her way. Talking to People magazine, Sharon said, "Next year I want to work on a movie for Ozzy. He's had offers for his book. That lady from 'An Education' could play me — she's fabulous!" The "lady" that Sharon refers to is British actress Carey Mulligan, who was nominated for an Oscar for her starring role as a young schoolgirl seduced by an older man in that independent drama.

Sharon added that talks are already underway to bring Ozzy's best-selling autobiography to the screen.

Johnny Depp has been mentioned in the past as a possible contender to play Ozzy.

Meanwhile, Sharon and daughter Kelly are working on a new TV show called "Osbourne Family Values". After two TV ventures, "The Osbournes" and the short-lived "Osbournes Reloaded", Ozzy himself says he's had enough of TV: "I gotta be honest, I'm not really keen on TV. I mean, I must have watched, like, two episodes of 'The Osbournes'. I just don't like watching myself on TV, I feel geeky."

Ozzy is working on a new album, his first since 2007's "Black Rain", which he plans to release this summer. He's also slated to hit the road with a new version of his annual Ozzfest tour, which was put on ice last year.

British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST will be IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson's guests on Friday, April 9 during Bruce's weekly BBC 6 Music radio program, dubbed "The Bruce Dickinson Friday Rock Show". Listen to the broadcast live via the Internet between 9:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. (midnight) U.K. time at BBC.co.uk.

Sony Music has set a May 11 release date (one day earlier internationally) for "British Steel: Legacy Edition", the limited deluxe expanded edition of JUDAS PRIEST's classic 1980 album "British Steel".

"British Steel" was the sixth studio album by JUDAS PRIEST. Released on April 14, 1980 and produced by Tom Allom, "British Steel" was recorded at Tittenhurst Park in England — a mansion owned at the time by former THE BEATLES member Ringo Starr, and previously owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

"British Steel" has long been considered one of metals all-time classics. It was with this release that PRIEST truly broke through to the masses, with a pair of tracks that have become fixtures on rock radio — the enduring anthems "Breaking The Law" and "Living After Midnight". But like all classic albums, there is not a single weak track detected on "British Steel", as evidenced by such standouts as the perennial concert highlight "Metal Gods", as well as "Rapid Fire", "Grinder", "United" and "The Rage", among others.

In 2009 JUDAS PRIEST performed the "British Steel" album in its entirety for the first time ever as part of their 30th anniversary USA tour. A filmed recording of the show on the August 17, 2009 at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida will be included in both the limited-edition deluxe and deluxe releases. The show was captured in front of a vibrant American audience and in full 5.1 surround and stereo sound. Known for their high-energy and spectacular stage shows the band played the entire "British Steel" album in sequence as well as a number of other well-know tracks from their catalog.

The live concert was mixed in stereo and 5.1 by the original "British Steel" producer Tom Allom. In addition, the DVD will include the bonus content of "The Making Of British Steel", a 30-minute doc featuring the four original band members. This new DVD brings the live PRIEST experience like no other live recording.

"British Steel: Legacy Edition" will come in two formats:

* Limited edition deluxe three-disc to include original album, live DVD and live CD (***TO BE CONFIRMED***)
* Deluxe two-disc to include original album plus live DVD

GUNS N' ROSES and METALLICA are the subject of the March 12, 2010 "Ask Billboard" column of the online version of Billboard magazine. A fan wrote in asking who has totaled more record sales — GUNS N' ROSES or METALLICA.

"Utilizing Nielsen SoundScan data, which dates to 1991, GUNS N' ROSES have totaled 24,914,000 albums sold in the U.S." Gary Trust of Billboard.com writes in his response. "1991's 'Use Your Illusion 2' leads with 5,587,000 units, followed closely by 'Use Your Illusion 1', at 5,502,000.

"In that span, METALLICA has sold 52,271,000 albums in the U.S., led by 1991's 'Metallica' with sales to date of 15,525,000.

"According to the Recording Industry of America (RIAA), whose data encompasses the bands' entire careers, METALLICA leads GUNS N' ROSES, 59 to 43.5 million. Among all artists, METALLICA ranks 18th, GUNS N' ROSES 30th."

Everybody in the world knows Slash as the guitarist from Guns ‘N Roses and
Velvet Revolver. The guy in the top hat with the cascading black curls standing
in front of Marshall and shouldering Les Paul. But not a whole lot of people
know him as a prolific songwriter and guitarist in a variety of different styles
including metal, Americana, and Zeppelin-influenced rock. For the last two
years, he has been working on a solo album, writing songs that wouldn’t fit
into the Velvet Revolver repertoire and finding singers to sing them. He has
brought together everyone from Ozzy and M. Shadows to Lemmy in a project that
showcases the guitarist as an instrumentalist capable of burning through speed
metal licks as well as laying down quasi-Stones country blues licks. This is one
of the very first conversations Slash has had about the new record [untitled as
of this writing, the interview was conducted in December 2009].

UG: We spoke back in September of 2009 and you were already talking about a solo
record then. This project must have been a long time in the making.

Slash: What happened was I wrote this book [Slash] and one of the passages in
the book, I said something about, “The next record I’d like to do would be a
record where I could get a lot of people that I’ve worked with to come and
sing on my record as opposed to me always going and jamming and doing sessions
for other people.” And I was starting to think outside of the box at that
point because the Velvet thing I knew wasn’t gonna last much longer than that
tour. At least the lineup that we had.

That’s when you started giving thought to a solo album?

So I was starting to think of other things and I needed the outlet. I needed to
do something where I was just captain of my own ship for a minute. I’m not
saying that I want to do this permanently but I just needed to, after all the
stuff with Guns ‘N Roses and then Velvet Revolver, I just needed to do
something to sort of get my own ya yas out.

You didn’t want to do another Snakepit-styled record?

I didn’t want to put together another band. Snakepit was a band; everybody
wrote, everybody had equal input even though I had my name on it. I’m so used
to being in a band that I just never really tried to do anything else. So what
happened was we finished the tour and Scott got fired right after we walked off
the stage in Amsterdam. So as soon as I got home I started compiling material
and started looking at a solo record. I started writing and doing all that kind
of stuff. I also scored a movie so I was spending a lot of time just sort of
creating.

You were in a really musical place?

I put together a bunch of material and I started thinking who would sound good.
I did one song and said, “This would sound great for Ozzy” or the Fergie
song (“Beautiful Dangerous” was totally pegged for her. And that’s how the
whole record was.

You say that Fergie was the perfect person to sing this track you had written.
You didn’t have any other choices, for example, but Fergie on that music you
were putting together?

Yeah, exactly. There were a few songs I didn’t know who was gonna sing but for
the most part I put something together, listened to it, and thought, “Who
would sound great on that particular track?” And most of it worked out; there
were a couple people that I didn’t necessarily get but it all worked out for
the better because who I ended up getting on it was way better than my original
idea.

"I’m so used to being in a band that I just never really tried to do anything
else."
Were you thinking about vocal melodies during the demo stage? Did you have any
rough ideas for vocals or anything?

It was really sort of an open canvas for any singer that I chose. I was thinking
more along the lines of I was putting choruses together and I’d put a bridge
in. Sometimes it would only be two parts; sometimes it would be more of a song
structure and just say, “Have at it. It’s totally open to your
interpretation and we change the arrangement if need be. Whatever it is.”

We will go back and get some more details on these songs. Josh Freese and Chris
Cheney was the main rhythm section for most of the album. Did you know the type
of rhythm section you wanted to bring in? Did you know the types of players you
wanted?

Initially I thought of Josh and Josh took off on this Nine Inch Nails tour that
looked like it was gonna take forever. So he was somebody that I wanted to use.
I was trying to think of drummers; he was one of the guys that I really admired
that I thought would be good. But he was on this tour and it was really funny
because at one point when it was getting down to the wire and I was gonna go
into Eric Valentine’s studio and start working, I was sitting at home with my
cell phone watching cartoons or something and thinking, “Oh, who the fuck is
gonna play drums ‘cause Josh isn’t around?” and he called and said he just
quit the Nine Inch Nails tour. So that’s how that happened.

And Chris is just the best session player that I know so I called him up. It’s
weird, I know two bass players: Duff obviously played in Guns ‘N Roses and
Velvet Revolver and Johnny [Griparic] who played in Snakepit. I didn’t want to
use Duff so I was tryin’ to think of bass players and Chris I’ve worked with
so many times and he’s easy going and he learns quickly.

Having a quality rhythm section like that must have been great for you.

Those two guys pretty much made it really easy to record this record. What I
would do was whatever state of progress the demo was, either finished or however
many ideas, with a vocal or without a vocal, I’d bring it in and we would
learn the song that morning and then have it recorded in its entirety by that
night. So we’d work up the arrangement with no sweat, no complaints, no
issues, no hassle; it was just breezing. So they were a Godsend those two guys.

Josh actually used a number of different drum kits on the album?

Eric was originally a drummer and he knows drums. That’s why we have his kits.
[Valentine had about 10 different sets in the studio] He knows exactly what they
would sound like. Eric was almost like having a bandmember because Eric, when I
first met him, I picked him out of like a dozen producers.

Eric Valentine did talk about spending a fair amount of time dialing in guitar
sounds and testing different amps and microphones and guitars.

We started out complicated and it ended up very simple. We ended up with one
guitar [1959 Les Paul copy built by Chris Derrig; same guitar that Slash used on
Appetite for Destruction] and one head [Marshall JCM800 Lead Series modded top]
that drove the whole record. The main things we would find were not guitars but
amps; combination of amps to do the other guitar parts. So it wasn’t exactly
the same as the main guitar track. And so we would have a Vox [AC-30] or a
Magnatone [also a 1959 Fender Bassman was used for clean guitars] and all these
different things and just trying to find a guitar sound that would sound like
another guitar and complement this guitar. That didn’t take that long and a
lot of time I’d let Eric run with that. I already got the one Marshall/Les
Paul sound and he had fun finding whatever; if I liked it we used it and if I
didn’t like it we’d keep dicking with it.

So it was just the Les Paul and the Marshall?

Yeah. Which was great because it’s come full circle where I only owned one amp
and one guitar to all this stuff I’ve picked up over the years and
experimented with that and the other. All the way back to I only need the one
amp and one guitar.

How much time did you actually take dialing in sounds and cutting tracks?

Well, it was one of the most enjoyable and relaxed kind of sessions [I’ve ever
done]. If we started a song, we’d take one day and get all the rhythm stuff
and then come in and do guitars. We’d do all of that in that afternoon and
having something finished by that night. Except if it had to have an acoustic
part; we’d do that the next day.

“Crucify the Dead” is Ozzy’s track and there some cool picking parts on
there with this kind of lo-fi guitar tone.

I used a Goldtop for the solo and the single note stuff; just for the intro.
That was one of the songs that originally was a piece of music that I used for
this movie. The movie is called This is Not a Movie and it’s a low-budget
independent film. It’s really very cool. So I had that music that I wrote for
this particular scene and then after I had written it, I was going, “That
would make a great Ozzy song.” I sort of made a whole song out of it and sent
it to Ozzy.

"I put together a bunch of material and I started thinking who would sound
good."
Ozzy actually recorded this at his home studio. Were you there when he cut the
vocal?

Yeah. It was great; I’m glad you brought that up. I’ve known Ozzy for a
while; we met in the late ‘80s. He’s one of those icons that I sort of grew
up with and I’ve had defined experiences listening to Sabbath and listening to
Ozzy growing up. It’s like the background music to my life. Anyway to be
sitting next to Ozzy working on one of my songs and him singing into the
microphone, to have that voice just sort of casually singing right next to me
was definitely an experience. It was very cool. He was writing and working on
the lyrics and singing into the microphone.

Your solo had a bit of that Eric Clapton “woman” tone where he dials off the
treble? Is that what you were doing?

It’s not inspired by Clapton but I love Clapton a lot. I discovered a long
time for me as part of my playing when we were doing the Guns ‘N Roses Use
Your Illusions records, turning the tone knob off on the rhythm pickup. And I
did it for like “Heaven’s Door” I think was one of the most recognizable
places I used it. And so it’s just become a thing with me and it pops up here
and there and that’s what that was. And it’s just something that I’ve been
doing that I really like; it’s such a great, warm, bluesy sound.

That is exactly what Clapton does.

Yeah, but I didn’t know Eric did it.

The Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins does high harmonies on “Crucify the
Dead?”

Yeah, I wasn’t there when Taylor came down and did that.

You remarked earlier on the Andrew Stockdale track. “By the Sword” has
acoustic guitars a cool sort of guitar/vocal line that is happening.

It was the main riff and that was there before. I did have a couple of those
parts but when it came to doing the verse, it sort of wrote itself because he
started singing it that way and so I put the sort of guitar underneath it.

There is sort of a Zep feel to this one?

Oh, yeah, you can’t knock it. But it’s as cool a Zeppelin homage as I could
think of. It’s definitely there but it’s in good taste.

The acoustic guitar is a huge part of the sound on “By the Sword.”

I shouldn’t say this but I have to be honest â€" it was actually a Martin.
Martin sent me a brand new guitar for the studio because I needed something
acoustic and it just sounded amazing. It’s one of the best sounding acoustic
guitars I’ve ever heard.

Trevor Adkinson who worked at Barefoot Studios and tuned your guitars and helped
with the album, said you had to take off some of your jewelry to record
acoustics?

Yeah, I had to take all my shit off.

Talking about recording your solos, Trevor took some photos of you and you stand
up when you record a solo. You don’t sit down. Is there a reason for that?

There are times when you’re soloing that you’ll tend to sit down because
it’s meticulous or whatever it is. But sometimes it needs to be raw energy and
the only way you can really get that is to stand up. So I would pick and choose.

Having Lemmy in the studio doing “Doctor Alibi” must have been cool.

That was another great moment; having Lemmy come down. Because Lemmy was one of
those guys that I so looked up to and I still do. When I was a kid, I was one of
those Lemmy fans that would bow in his presence. And we got to be friends and
he’s always sort of taken me under his wing kind of thing and he’s always
been really cool. Lemmy is one of those kinds of guys who can have a real
serious attitude if he wants to. He’s actually a really nice guy in general. I
always thought he was sort of intimidating but he was always really nice to me.
And I’ve had a chance to work with him; I’ve played on one of their records
[March or Die] and I’ve done a lot of gigs with ‘em. I asked him if he’d
be interested and I sent him the thing and he got it right away and he came down
to the studio.

Lemmy must have been a little crazy in the studio?

We had bottle of Jack Daniels and a couple bags of potato chips and it reminded
me of when I used to show up at sessions. It was great. And the song is all
about how the doctor told him how he might have to quit partying and then
another doctor said, “No, you need to continue.” It’s a great personal
thing; I’m really honored to have it on there.

“Nothing to Say” is Slash going metal. Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows does
the vocal here and your playing is pretty brutal.

We’re managed by the same people and I had this one idea that was all this
duga duga duga duga duga duga [mimics fast metal lick] and that’s something
I’ve always wanted to do. I’m a huge Megadeth and Metallica fan and I
can’t do it in Velvet and it definitely wasn’t gonna happen in Guns. I was
like, “OK, I wanna do this song and who is gonna sing it?” Dave Mustaine
came to mind and it would have been awesome with Dave but at the same time I had
Ozzy and Iggy and Lemmy that sort of represented a certain generation. And I had
Ian Astbury and stuff so I didn’t want to go too sort of my generation and
fill it all up that way. So the idea of Sevenfold came from management and I was
really familiar with them so I thought, “Let’s give it a shot and see what
happens.”

"It was really sort of an open canvas for any singer that I chose."
What do you think of M. Shadows’ performance?

I think he brought his A game to the table. I think this particular song is one
of the best songs I’ve heard him do. Melodic.

Your solo was really burning. Did you have to warm up for that one?

It’s that tempo of a song so you have to sort of just go there. When I did the
original demo as was the case for a lot of songs on the record, all the demos
had one-take solos. Right? And when you don’t have the pressure of worrying
about the red light or whatever it is, there’s a certain laid back thing to
doing demos and the performances that might be on there. And I ended up keeping
the basic idea for most of the songs when I went into really do them. I was
like, “The demo is great” and that’s called demoitis. Certain key things
in there I tried to keep and so that’s what that solo is. It’s just a real
free-form kind of thing but I knew there were certain sections that I wanted to
keep and try to keep those melodies close to what they originally were. It’s
spontaneous but I’m hearing something that I had done spontaneously before.

Are the solos on the record first-take type performances?

Yeah, the first couple takes, and just hope that you manage to capture that feel
of whatever it was that you were trying to sort of emulate without learning it
note-by-note.

When you really think about it, you making this type of record really makes
sense. Because you have done all these different kinds of sessions and worked
with different types of musicians on their albums so you do have all these
different musical experiences.

I needed to get it out of my system. But the timing was such that I couldn’t
have made this record anytime prior to this particular period. The motivation
was there but also it took all these years to collect enough credibility to call
up a guy like Steve Ferrone and say, “Hey, would you come down and play on a
track?” It was nerve wracking just to make the phone calls and see whether
they would do it or not. But I’m sure it might not have been as easy had I not
established these relationships with people. And it was a perfect time to do it
because Velvet at least with Scott had run its course. I couldn’t go through
that process of auditioning singers and get that all back together to do another
Velvet record. I really needed a break from the band vibe. So maybe it was in
the cards to do this now.

That’s where Velvet is at this point?

Still looking for a singer, yeah.

Now that the record is done and you’ve spent two years on your vision, is it
what you thought it would be?

I didn’t even know what I was doing; I really had no idea what it was gonna be
like. I was actually sort of surprised at how much came out spontaneously or
self-consciously; how all the ideas really sort of came. Because going into it I
didn’t really know. I was putting musical ideas together and I was very
focused but I didn’t know what it was gonna end up like at the end of the day.

Peavey Monitor recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Peavey Monitor: The "Rust In Peace 20th Anniversary Tour" is a triumph for MEGADETH, and a very positive thing for you and [MEGADETH mainman Dave] Mustaine. Now that you have a few shows under your belt, what does it feel like?

Ellefson: It's good to be back home. This is something that I always hoped would happen, and when it finally came and I was standing in the rehearsal room playing "Symphony of Destruction", I just looked at Dave with his hair hanging into his face, and it felt like I never left. We're enjoying the second time around the track.

Peavey Monitor: It's been a long time since you've played most of this album, and even longer since you played them with Mustaine. Which songs are the most fun to play, and why?

Ellefson: The big hits like "Symphony" and "Peace Sells" are always fun because the whole building responds. The ones that have been a treat to play on this tour are probably the half of "Rust" we never played before — songs like "Five Magics", "Polaris", and "Poison Was the Cure". There's a freshness that keeps us on our game so we're not going into autopilot mode.

After "Rust In Peace" came out in 1990, we did the Clash of the Titans Tour with SLAYER in Europe, then toured with JUDAS PRIEST and TESTAMENT, and then finished with Clash in the U.S. On any album there are certain songs that come off the stage sounding good, and there are some that sound great on the record and are part of your artistic path you took making the record, but maybe don't translate in the live show. Over the years we honed in on the songs that really resonate live. There were about four, maybe five, that we rotated on a regular basis.

By doing it as a 20-year special performance, now people are coming to the show knowing that's what they're going to hear. So it's a special treat when we get to play it all, in order. This has become the soundtrack for their lives, some of them, so the fans get to see it live, performed the way they've heard it all these years.

Peavey Monitor: Early in MEGADETH's career, you had a reputation for going through multiple producers on every album. "Rust In Peace" was the first one made with one producer consistently through the project. Did that have an affect on the outcome?

Ellefson: Lots of times producers would be recommended by the label. megadeth is a band that always sold enough records that we were guaranteed to make another album. But we were the most misunderstood artists at the label — first, because we were wild, unpredictable and often dangerous. They didn't know how to get their hands around it and develop it. But it's also music that is closely held by the fans, so they were hands-off a lot of times. Mike Clink [producer of "Rust In Peace"] was in between GUNS N' ROSES records, and certainly we thought "Appetite For Destruction" was phenomenal. We thought that if he could do the same with us, it would be phenomenal. But what was more important to Dave and me was that he engineered under producer Ron Nevison on UFO's "Strangers In The Night"!

Mike came to one rehearsal, loved it, and then we went into the studio. We recorded it exactly the way we had rehearsed it. What you hear is the band coming into the studio, throwing up mikes, and hitting "record." So it wasn't really produced at all, in a traditional sense. What Mike helped with was the editing that went on, because of the nature of how we recorded it. That was all with razor blade on two-inch tape, by the way, no Pro Tools! He had a great ear for tone, too, and I think his influence is felt most in those areas.

Peavey Monitor: What was the writing process like?

Ellefson: It's funny, you look back over the career, and every album up through "Rust In Peace" was a landmark record. "Killing Is My Business" was a rough-around-the-edges debut, and then "Peace Sells" really refined it. Then we had the member changes, and it took us time to develop an enhanced MEGADETH sound. The writing of "Rust" started on the "So Far" tour. It was Dave and me the whole time. We started with Chuck [Behler, drummer from 1987-89], and then Nick [Menza, drummer from 1989-98] came in about midway through writing. We wrote it as a three piece. Marty [Friedman, guitarist from 1990-2000]'s influence came with writing solos. Maybe because it was just three of us doing the record, it kept things focused. Then Marty came in and really shined. We were just getting ready to record, like in three or four weeks. Dave played all or most of the rhythm tracks. The rhythm guitar playing really defines the sound, and that's Dave.

Peavey Monitor: Those were the band's darkest days.

Ellefson: It's pretty interesting, because for the entire writing period we were in a very dark place, then managed to get completely clean and sober when we recorded it. You can hear the vibe in the record. There's definitely a lot of piss and vinegar in the sound. You could hear the mood swing in the record. I think by being clean and having our wits about us, that's what made the record as fast and furious as it was. We were basically a raw, exposed nerve.

There were some huge transitions during that period. 1988 was fun and chaotic on the road, and '89 was the black cloud of doom hanging over us. In 1990 we got clean and ferociously blasted through the record. It only took a month to record and a week to mix. Clink had to run and do the "Use Your Illusion" records, so Max Norman came in to mix, which was a godsend because he ended up producing "Countdown to Extinction" and everything through '95.

NCAA March Madness is in full swing and it won't be long before the teams are whittled down for the NCAA Men's Final Four semifinal and national championship games. Gearing up for the excitement, today, AT&T and the NCAA announced iconic rock band STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will usher in the action-packed weekend by headlining the AT&T Block Party. The Block Party is part of The Big Dance Concert Series — a free three-day music and entertainment festival held in downtown Indianapolis' White River State Park, April 2-4.

The STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will kick off the concert series on Friday evening during the AT&T Block Party on opening night of The Big Dance, where music and basketball collide. As one of the first performances by the multi-platinum recording group in nearly ten years, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS will debut songs off its new self-titled "Stone Temple Pilots", which will drop around the globe on May 25.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS had 15 singles on the Billboard Top Ten and sold more than 35 million albums worldwide.

"We are all so excited about heading into Indianapolis! Glad to see they are hosting the NCAA finals again," said Dean DeLeo, guitarist for STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. "It's a great city they have there, and we dig the Colts, too!"

"AT&T is proud to sponsor STP and bring fans closer to one of the greatest rock acts of our time during The Big Dance," said Jamie Kerr, senior manager, AT&T National Sponsorships. "And, we're also giving fans a sneak preview of the four Naismith Trophy finalists beforehand by inviting them to ask these stellar student-athletes questions via SMS. It's another way we're connecting our customers with what matters most to them."

The Naismith Preview Show allows fans special access through a text message Q&A session with the four finalists eligible for the Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T — one of the most prestigious awards in college basketball. The Naismith Preview Show takes place just before STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' evening performance.

"The Big Dance celebration is a way to thank fans who come out to be part of what's certain to be an exciting weekend during the NCAA Men's Final Four ," said Greg Shaheen, NCAA senior vice president for basketball and business strategies. "With plenty of free entertainment and award-winning acts performing against the backdrop of the gorgeous White River State Park in Downtown Indianapolis, visitors and locals alike are guaranteed a good time."

White River State Park, site of The Big Dance, is conveniently located in downtown Indianapolis. The Park is home to numerous tourist attractions, including the NCAA Hall of Champions, a facility that features sports exhibits and displays while explaining the academic and athletic mission of NCAA student-athletes and the mission of the Association. There will also be a variety of new exhibits during the Men's Final Four such as a vintage exhibit highlighting some of the best games throughout the history of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

CINDERELLA played the first show in over three years this past Friday night
(March 19) at the Grizzly Rose in Denver, Colorado.

The group's setlist was reportedly as follows (not confirmed):

01. Second Wind / Push Push
02. The Last Mile
03. Night Songs
04. Somebody Save Me
05. Heartbreak Station
06. Coming Home
07. Fallin' Apart At The Seams
08. Long Cold Winter
09. Gypsy Road
10. Don't Know You Got (Till It's Gone)
11. Nobody's Fool
12. Shelter Me
----------------
13. Shake Me

CINDERELLA was scheduled to play another show last night (Saturday, March 20) at
The Depot in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In a recent interview with Bring Back Glam!, CINDERELLA frontman Tom Keifer
spoke about his voice issues which forced the cancellation of the band's U.S.
tour with WARRANT, LYNCH MOB and LYNAM in the summer of 2008.

"The root problem with my voice issues started in 1991 when I was diagnosed with
a paresis, [which is] partial paralysis of one side of my voice box," he
explained. "You have to train it to learn how to sing again.

"The partial paralysis is a neurological thing and it's caused by viruses, even
a common cold virus. The virus gets into the nerve and it can degenerate it.
It's rare, but it happens. Once degenerated, you can't â€" there's no surgery or
medicine that fixes it. You have to retrain it and it is very tedious and
time-consuming and it's not a lot of fun. In a lot of cases, it is
career-ending.

"The singing voice is such a fine tuned instrument and any subtle change can
throw it off."

He added, "A year ago, I met the 'Miracle Man' who is a vocal coach. He really
taught me a lot of things about breathing and how to control my air and how to
prevent this from happening again. I've been studying this technique â€" it's
what they teach opera singers â€" classical voice training, which I've never
been trained that way before. It doesn't change the tone of your voice, just how
you support it. I still sound the way I sound but I'm not hurting my voice, and
it's really worked and my voice feels stronger."

Regarding the possibility of a new CINDERELLA studio album at some point in the
not-too-distant future, Keifer told AOL's Noisecreep, "We always feel like a
band when we get back together and tour so the plan right now is to not put any
pressure on ourselves and to just get back out and have some fun, do shows and
be a band again and we'll see where it leads. It's definitely a possibility we
could make a record at some point, I just don't know when that would be. I would
say it's gotta be right place, right time. It's gotta feel right."

RATT drummer Bobby Blotzer's autobiography, "Tales Of A Ratt - Things You
Shouldn't Know", will be released on April 20, the same day that the band's new
CD, "Infestation", is being made available.

"Tales Of A Ratt" traces the history of Blotzer's personal journey of becoming
an '80s rock legend while taking the reader through a conversational
blow-by-blow of what it was like to manage fame, fortune, and the realities of
an era's end and rebirth. Packed with personal friends who make up nearly all
the famous bands of the '80s, this book is the backstage story that all fans of
'80s rock have always longed to hear, but have never heard.

"Tales Of A Ratt" is a diversion from the depressing heroin laced near death
books that dare to paint a positive era of rock and roll as anything but
exhilaratingly unique. The positive memories that make up the emotional
portfolio of nearly all '80s fans is kept alive as Bobby progresses step by step
through the lives of not only his band RATT, but the rise of so many others that
have become household names.

"Tales Of A Ratt" focuses on the fans that experienced the '80s first hand, and
the resurgence of '80s rock in the record industry today. As new fans look for
books to trace the history of '80s rock and as loyal fans of '80s legends look
to complete their collections of their rock heroes, "Tales Of A Ratt" delivers
the untold stories of how they hung out, how they partied, and how they made it
through the '90s to emerge a top billing genre in the 21st century.

Armored Saint is a band that you have to know if you’re involved in the world
of heavy metal. Like them or don’t, the band has been there from the start of
heavy metal and through good and bad have managed to put out albums when they
can. This year the band is putting out “La Raza” a record that sees Armored
Saint walking into a new chapter in their careers personally as well as the band
itself. That’s particularly true with legendary frontman John Bush.

Bush’s voice has been a sought-after commodity in metal almost since the
beginning. Early on he was asked to join Metallica before James Hetfield decided
to sing for the band and for the last few years has been singing for Anthrax as
well as Armored Saint. Bush is part of a generation of metal bands that are
taking hard looks at themselves and their careers. Bush is definitely taking
that hard look, something I got to talk to him about during our interview.

CRAVEONLINE: It’s been awhile since the last Armored Saint album. What’s
been going on in that time?

JOHN BUSH: We seem to want to put records out once every decade. Obviously I was
in another band (Anthrax) for 2000 and so that was my more prominent job. The
other thing was that for a few years after I did leave Anthrax I kind of
didn’t want to play music for a while. I thought it would be a good time for
me to focus on other things like a new career, I became a father, helped my wife
out with her business, it was all good actually. I got to take a break from
being the guy in a band, which was something I hadn’t done for three years but
for more like twenty-two years. There was nothing wrong and it wasn’t any
animosity towards music it was more like I’m just taking a break from this.

CRAVEONLINE: So why now for a new Armored Saint album?

JOHN BUSH: When Joey (Vera) proposed writing some new songs I said “For
what?” because I was really a little cautious as to what our objective was for
this. It was really as simple as Joey saying, “You’re my friend and lets
just write some songs”. Maybe deep down he had some ulterior motive but I
think it was more just him wanting to work on some new stuff. At that point I
figured, yeah, okay, let’s work on some new songs.

CRAVEONLINE: When you have ten years between records is there ever any fear
about how people will respond to the music in a new musical climate?

JOHN BUSH: You have to remember this is a band that started in 1983, then
disbanded in 1991 or 92, then resumed for one album in 2000 and now here we are
in 2010 so I’m under no illusion that we have some legitimate strong fan base.
I mean I’m not undermining people who like or continue to like Armored Saint
and I’m very grateful but none of that really matters.

Obviously we’ve had a relationship with Metal Blade and Brian (Slagel) since
back in 1982. We’re lucky that Brian’s attitude is “Hey I’ll still put
out your records, you’re my friends and I like you’re band” and that we
have that outlet. So when it came to the new material we never lost the
perspective, Joey and I, that we were doing this for any other reason than just
to write music. I have no other pre-conceived notion or ambition with this at
all. Record sales? I don’t know, honestly. I hate to say this but it really
doesn’t matter.

CRAVEONLINE: There’s been a lot in the early press for the album about how
approached the recording process a little differently. The quote being you’ve
“Taken the computers out of the process”. Talk about that.

JOHN BUSH: When we came to actually putting the songs down officially we went
into an analog situation and we used an analog board. We just thought it would
be warmer and better for what we were doing. We’re not opposed to computers,
they’re just part of how people make music these days. It was important for us
that we didn’t get into a situation where I sang one chorus one time and than
just laid it in 30 times or we played a riff and literally just recycled the
riff. That’s just counter to what this band was founded on. That’s not to
say we didn’t lay some stuff in and use that technology we just didn’t want
to rest on it.

CRAVEONLINE: When you guys got into the studio was it business as usual or was
their weirdness in being together again after so long?

JOHN BUSH: We didn’t record this record the way we have in the past with all
of us in a room together. Joey was really creative in writing the songs so he
played bass, rhythms and programmed the drums and I sang on it. So when we got
into the studio we used that as a template. We never got all of us together
slugging it out; we just didn’t do it that way. By the same token everybody
was able to get into the studio and add their own unique sound to the record.
Gonzo came in for drums and Jeff (Duncan) played about fifty percent of the
rhythms. It was a little different than what we used to do but we definitely
wanted everyone’s input and personality.

CRAVEONLINE: So why call the album La Raza? Is there a story behind the title?

JOHN BUSH: When Joey gave me stuff to work on he had working titles and a bunch
of them we kept because they sounded kind of cool. One of the songs Joey called
La Raza; maybe because that song has this Santana meets Mars Volta with some
metal thrown in feel to it. I thought the name was cool and the actual Mexican
meaning of La Raza is “The Race” but I didn’t want to write a song about
the Mexican race, that didn’t gel with me so I put a twist on it and wrote a
song about the human race. I kept the title and that song is one of my favorites
on the album. It has this epic huge feeling to it and I just wanted that to be
the title. This is a band where 3/5 of it is Spanish or Latino so I just thought
there was a correlation there.

SoundStageDirect, a leading online vinyl LP retailer, has announced the reissue
of two classic ALICE IN CHAINS albums: "Sap" and "Jar of Flies". Originally
released in 1992 and 1994 as follow-ups to both of ALICE IN CHAINS' full-length
releases, these new imports have been remastered on 180-gram vinyl and packaged
together as a two-disc set. Available on vinyl again for the first time in
years, only 2,000 copies of this limited-edition vinyl record package are being
pressed.

Ever the stalwart of the Seattle rock scene that exploded in the wake of
NIRVANA's success, ALICE IN CHAINS' trademark hybrid of blues and metal paved
the way for their own stardom. With videos in heavy rotation on TV, a cameo in
Cameron Crowe's "Singles", an early-'90s Gen X take on dating and relationships,
and headlining tours, the sky seemed the limit for the foursome. Sadly, the
death of front man Layne Staley in 2002 nearly spelled the end of the band until
reuniting in 2006 and releasing a new album in 2009.

Both "Sap" and "Jar of Flies" represented significant departures from the moody,
dropped-D Seattle sound showcased on their other efforts. Instead of plugging
in, ALICE IN CHAINS took acoustic guitars into the studio and hardly missed a
beat. "Sap" features lauded guests from the Seattle music scene, including Ann
Wilson of HEART, Chris Cornell, then of SOUNDGARDEN, and Mark Arm of MUDHONEY.
"Jar of Flies" built on the exploratory sound of its predecessor, showcasing a
softer sound and introducing arrangements and instruments previously unheard on
any ALICE IN CHAINS' material. As a result, the first single, "No Excuses",
yielded the band their first number-one position on the rock charts.

While the early '90s spotlight has since faded from the Pacific Northwest, the
sound showcased on both these records is still vibrant and a reminder of the
inherent capabilities within the hard rock genre.

Don't miss your chance to own a piece of rock vinyl history and hear "Sap" and
"Jar of Flies" as you've never before or for the first time.

Vocalist/bassist John Gallagher of the veteran British/American heavy metal trio
RAVEN joined Canadian legends ANVIL on stage on Saturday, March 20 at
Washington, D.C.'s 9:30 club to perform the ANVIL classic "Metal On Metal".
Video footage of the performance can be viewed below.

RAVEN's new album, "Walk Through Fire", will be released in the U.S. on March 30
(one day earlier in Europe through SPV/Steamhammer) via Metal Blade Records. The
CD, which came out in Japan in March 2009 via King Records, was recorded at the
Assembly Line Studios with engineer/mixer Kevin 131 (PROJECT: FAILING FLESH,
DECEASED, DYSRYTHMIA, GARDEN OF SHADOWS).

ANVIL's acclaimed documentary, "Anvil! The Story of Anvil", was honored in the
"Best Documentary" category at this year's Independent Spirit Awards, which was
held on March 5 at LA Live's panoramic event deck in downtown Los Angeles. ANVIL
also performed twice during the ceremony, which aired live and uncut on IFC
(Independent Film Channel).

"Anvil! The Story of Anvil" is the directorial debut of screenwriter Sacha
Gervasi ("The Terminal") and was produced by Rebecca Yeldham ("The Kite Runner"
and "The Motorcycle Diaries"). The film follows guitarist/vocalist Steve "Lips"
Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner and their band, ANVIL, which released one of the
heaviest albums in metal history, 1982's "Metal on Metal". The album influenced
an entire musical generation of rock bands, including METALLICA, SLAYER, and
ANTHRAX, who all went on to sell millions of records. ANVIL, on the other hand,
took a different path â€" straight to obscurity. The film is both entertaining
and touching as it follows their last-ditch quest for the fame and fortune that
has been so elusive to them. "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" is a timeless tale of
survival and the unadulterated passion it takes to follow your dream, year after
year.

Praised as "the best documentary I've seen in years," by documentarian Michael
Moore, "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" contains appearances by an array of heavy
metal icons, including METALLICA's Lars Ulrich, former member of GUNS N' ROSES,
Slash, ANTHRAX's Scott Ian, and SLAYER's Tom Araya, among others.

The red rocker SAMMY HAGAR (CHICKENFOOT, ex-VAN HALEN) is gearing up for an intimate solo gig at the San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino near San Bernardino, CA this Thursday, March 25th. Speaking with Wes Woods II from Sgvtribune.com, Hagar says "when I built Cabo Wabo (a bar and lounge in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico), I got into the intimacy of how you can get into a show and have more spontaneity and more fun. It's a different kind of energy in a small room. And 3,500 is not that small. But it's small enough to feel intimate."

When asked about his feelings on Van Halen : "The band broke up in 1995. The last record was in '93. Seventeen years and they haven't made any new music. That's crazy ... if it changed and it was like it used to be when I was in the band, I could do a reunion and an album, but not under these circumstances."

In-person interview with Marc Rizzo of Soulfly
By Julia Neuman
March 20th 2010, Alrosa Villa, Columbus OH
Julia: How is the tour going so far?
Marc: It's been really good. We're about two weeks into it. We're here in the
Midwest for awhile, then we get to go up to Canada.

Julia: You've got Prong, Incite and Rotting Corpse along with you on tour. How
has it been having these bands as support for you?
Marc: Really good. I love Prong, that's a band I grew up listening to as a kid.
They're really great guys, and we're excited to have them back on the tour
because they were also on the tour we did back in October. So this is their
second tour with us. And Rotting Corpse is great, we're good friends with those
guys and they're a really good band. Incite is awesome too, and Max's stepson is
in the band so they tour with us often.

Julia: A few days ago you guys shot a video for 'Rise of the Fallen' in
Poughkeepsie, NY. Tell me about the shoot for that.
Marc: That club we usually play is called The Chance. It was awesome having all
of our friends come out there, and just having kids moshing. It was a really
good show and we got to record it, so it's cool that it's going to be the video.

Julia: Is there a release date set for that yet?
Marc: Well the record comes out in May, so maybe the video will be out around
that time.

Julia: 'Omen' is scheduled for release on May 25. What really stands out about
this album for you?
Marc: It's right to the point. There's a real hardcore, punk vibe to the record.
Short tunes. This record is kind of different for us and I think the fans are
going to like it a lot.

Julia: When you were writing the album did you have it in mind that you wanted
short songs, or was that more of an unplanned thing? Did you go into it with
specific musical goals in mind?
Marc: I think Max's goal was to put out a record that seemed a little more
to-the-point, a real thrash metal or hardcore vibe. I know he definitely wanted
to go in that direction when we started making the record, so I guess in the end
it turned out to be like that.

Julia: You released a few solo albums yourself in which you incorporated a lot
of different styles of music other than metal. Do you prefer the songwriting
dynamic that you get with a group or do you prefer writing on your own, where
maybe you're not quite as limited musically?
Marc: I like both. I like working with the guys in Soulfly and collaborating but
then I also like doing my own thing. I do like being able to do whatever I want
to and really indulging in guitar music. It's nice to be able to do just the
guitar thing, because that's what my solo stuff is, just instrumental guitar
music. So I like being able to just go off into that world too.

Julia: Which album are you most proud of to date and why?
Marc: The Cavalera Conspiracy record is really special to me because I was such
a big fan of Max and Igor when they were in Sepultura. For them to ask me to be
a part of that record was really exciting. I think we put out a great record
that will stand the test of time.

Julia: How has Max Cavalera influenced you musically?
Marc: He's been one of my biggest influences. You know, growing up I was the
biggest Sepultura fan and Soulfly fan. I was always into their music and wanted
to go in that direction with music. And then to be able to join a band with them
was really crazy. Even now with the band together, he's a huge influence on me.

Julia: Are there any particular bands or artists that you're really into at the
moment?
Marc: Right now there are so many great thrash metal bands out there. You name
'em I like 'em. I'm really into the bands that are retro thrash like Municipal
Waste and Warbringer. Also I love all the big metal bands like Shadows Fall. I'm
a huge fan of the whole scene right now.

Julia: So would you say metal is 'coming back'?
Marc: Absolutely! It's been back!

Julia: What are some things you do to relax while you're on tour?
Marc: When the shows over a lot of times I'll just sit in my bunk and watch
movies on my laptop. That's probably the only time I have to just relax and hang
out. You can't watch a movie in the main area of the bus because nobody shuts
up. You know, everybody's gotta narrate the movie and tell you what's gonna
happen next. I just go to my bunk, put my earplugs in, and then I can just zone
out.

Julia: What are your plans for after this tour?
Marc: I'll probably go home for a couple days and then fly back out to LA to
start recording the Cavalera Conspiracy record for the month of April. I believe
we're going to Europe right after that and we'll be there for the whole summer.

According to The Pulse of Radio , BOSTON guitarist and co-founder Tom Scholz is suing The Boston Herald and two of the paper's gossip columnists for insinuating he had a hand in the 2007 suicide of singer Brad Delp. Pollstar.com reports that Scholz' lawsuit named the paper and the columnists Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa, who were in charge of the Herald's "Inside Track" column at the time of Delp's death from carbon monoxide asphyxiation. The "Inside Track" ran two columns covering Delp's suicide — one of which was headlined "Pal's Snub Made Delp Do It: Boston Rocker's Ex-wife Speaks."

Sholz' suit states that the defendants "falsely suggested in headlines, content and via innuendo" that Scholz was responsible in some manner for Delp taking his own life in part because Fran Cosmo — a BOSTON bandmember and close friend of Delp's — was dropped from the band's tour. According to speculation, Delp was under pressure to perform with BOSTON as well a BEATLES tribute band featuring Cosmo. The libel case also states that Fee and Raposa were purposely slandering Scholz for their publicist friend who represented the tribute band.

The lawyer representing Scholz is said to have already won a $2 million libel suit against The Boston Herald.

Shortly before Delp's death Tom Scholz heaped praise on Delp's vocal abilities: "He's the best singer I've ever heard — period. I have worked with a ton of 'em — nobody can do the things that he can do. I'm not talking about singing high notes — lots of people can do that. He can do amazing things with his voice, and his grasp of music is just mind-boggling. The things that he can keep upstairs... it's like you're tapping into some kind of computer memory bank or something."

The Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida will be the first stop on a
multi-city tour featuring legendary artists LYNYRD SKYNYRD and POISON singer
Bret Michaels along with guests .38 SPECIAL.

getting to tour with him. It's going to be a kick-ass show complete with new
music plus all the fan favorites. SKYNYRD will definitely be pulling for Bret to
become the next 'Celebrity Apprentice'!"

"There is no doubt that LYNYRD SKYNYRD is one of my all-time favorite rock and
roll bands. I have been friends with them a long time, so I am honored that
SKYNYRD has asked me to join them on their tour this summer," says Bret
Michaels. "I will have a chance to play all the POISON greatest hits, plus all
the new solo hits including 'Nothing to Lose' (featuring Miley Cyrus), songs
from 'Rock of Love', 'Celebrity Apprentice' and the new solo CD, 'Custom Built'.

"The LYNYRD SKYNYRD / BRET MICHAELS tour will be a summer concert celebration of

"Invisible Wounds" was released in June 2009 via Massacre.

Danne formed INMORIA in April 2008 and recruited each member of the band as he knew his hopes and ideas would be better realized with a full lineup and would be "recorded in their greatest potential," according to a press release.

INMORIA's sound is described as "a mix of dark, brooding music and haunting melodies" which "take you on an emotionally charged journey that will wrap its spindly fingers around your mind, subconsciously pulling you in a direction you may not want to go in, yet you cannot turn away from."

INMORIA's latest video, "In My Dreams", can be viewed below.

Indianapolis, Indiana's THE CONTORTIONIST has inked a deal with Good Fight Music. The band will enter the studio this spring with producer Ken Susi (UNEARTH guitarist) to begin recording its full-length debut for a late mid-to-late-summer release.

When asked what drew him to the band, Susi said, "THE CONTORTIONIST is not your typical/run of the mill band. Lots of bands in this day and age are copycats or just plain old rip-offs of other bands. This is truly an original band, from the overall look, sound and structure of the songs."

THE CONTORTIONIST has worked hard to earn a loyal hometown following through consistent regional shows, coastal touring and two self-released EPs. Their ability to dole out their sounds to epic proportions in a live setting piqued the interest of the record label Good Fight Music, so in early 2010, shortly after the staff had caught them live, a deal had become imminent.

Commented guitarist Robby Baca: "We are very excited about joining the Good Fight family. We are confident that their experience in the record industry is exactly what we need to make what we love doing our career. We look forward to fighting the GOOD FIGHT with these fine folks."

Fans can watch Mitch Lucker (vocals) and Mark Heylmun (guitars) talk about the writing process for their third full-length release, the making of the "Wake Up" video, the pains of video shoots and their excitement over playing Warped Tour this summer. The episode will also feature the band's complete promo video history.

SUICIDE SILENCE filmed a video for the song "Disengage" on Febraury 19 in the Los Angeles area. The event will feature meet-and-greets with members of OBITUARY, SIX FEET UNDER, CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEATH, THE ABSENCE and more. MAYHEM's current live formation is as follows:

Attila Csihar: Vocals
Necrobutcher (a.k.a. Jørn Stubberud): Bass

Norwegian black metal legends 1349 have issued the following update:

"With their deepest apologies to all their fans and supporters, 1349 have to announce that they will not play at the upcoming Copenhagen Metal Festival festival on April 2nd, due to severe financial/organizational problems at the forefront of the event on the part of the responsible organizers.

1349 and Twisted Talent regret the latest proceedings and want to make sure that there will be no iteration of this situation."

Finnish death metal combo SURVIVORS ZERO has issued the following update:

"We really hate to break these news to you guys… but the U.S. officials at Homeland Security thought that this was not our time to tour the States. No working visa. No tour. Tough fucking shit.

"Every other band on the 'Finnish Metal' tour (FINNTROLL, SWALLOW THE SUN and MOONSORROW) will go and perform but not us. This sucks in a way that you guys can't even imagine.

"Loads of hard work went into getting this thing going in the first place. And all went well to the point when we should have gotten just a approval stamp on the papers.

"So… There's no time to apply for another working visas and we have to cancel the whole fucking tour. Sorry to disappoint you guys.

"Hope this thing works out next time and see you then!"

The "Finnish Metal" tour, featuring FINNTROLL, MOONSORROW and SWALLOW THE SUN, will kick off on April 6 at Jaxx in Springfield, Virginia.

SURVIVORS ZERO recently parted ways with drummer Reima Kellokoski and replaced him with Seppo Tarvainen (THE SCOURGER, TUKKANUOTTA). According to the group, "The change was due to Reima's commitments with his main band, IMPALED NAZARENE. . . As 2010 will be an anniversary year for IMPALED NAZARENE, [Reima's] allegiances, of course, lie with his band of 15 years. As both bands will tour actively and will not settle for compromises, both SURVIVORS ZERO and Reima felt this was the best decision and this departure is not in hostile terms in any way."

SURVIVORS ZERO's debut album, "CMXIX", was released on September 9, 2009 via Cobra Records. The CD was mixed at Black Lounge Studio in Avesta, Sweden while the mastering was handled by Pelle Henricsson at Tonteknik Recording in Umeå, Sweden.

SURVIVORS ZERO is:

Sami Jämsén (Studio Perkele) - Guitar
Tommi "Rotten" Virranta (ex-DEATHCHAIN) - Vocals
Tapio Wilska (ex-FINNTROLL) - Bass
Jani Luttinen (THE SCOURGER) - Guitar
Seppo Tarvainen (THE SCOURGER, TUKKANUOTTA) - Drums

SURVIVORS ZERO's "Reclaim My Heritage" video can be viewed below.

The "Reclaim My Heritage" limited-edition CD-single, which also includes a cover version of the classic KREATOR song "People Of The Lie", was released on June 6, 2009. It was sold only in Finland but the digital version is available worldwide.
