[HeavyMetalHeaven] AC/DC, Paul Dianno, Guns N Roses, Nikki Sixx, Megadeth, Dee Snider, Krokus, Marshall Law, Armored Saint, Dragonforce, Airbourne, Melvins and tons more hard rock and heavy metal news

A 39-year-old AC/DC fan is undergoing surgery after being glassed to the neck in a fight outside the band's final Australian rock concert at Perth's Subiaco Oval last night.
The man and his mates could not afford concert tickets and so parked their van outside the Irish Club on Townshend Road, cranked the band's tunes and started drinking, police said.
Just before 1am, another group, who knew the men, approached and a fight broke out.
The 39-year-old fell to the ground during the fracas and was stabbed to the neck with what police believe was a broken bottle.
The man's friends grabbed him and drove him to Sir Charles Hospital but he was later transferred to Royal Perth Hospital for surgery.
His injuries were described as serious.
The eight men believed to be involved in the fight were still to be questioned by police.
The legendary Aussie rock band returned to the home of original frontman Bon Scott to play two concerts, one on Saturday and the second last night, to finish their mammoth Australian tour.
The concerts saw an army of almost 100,000 black-clad fans descend on Subiaco, but up until last night there were no reports of violence.
Police said there were notably a lot less families at Monday night's concert, which drew 46,000 fans.
Consequently there were increased incidents of street drinking and "a significant number" of small volatile groups were ejected from the concert for disorderly behaviour, police said.
A suspected Finks motorcycle club associate has been charged with dealing methamphetamine outside the AC/DC concert on Saturday night.
It is understood the 29-year-old Dianella man had been involved in a scuffle outside the oval that left him with injuries to his left hand.
Officers approached him just outside a gate at Subiaco Oval after 10pm and searched his backpack.
Police found a clip seal bag containing what they claim is about 7.5 grams of methylamphetamine and $3500 in cash, thought to have been from the sale of drugs.
He has been charged with possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and unlawful possession of cash and will appear in the Perth Magistrate's Court later next month.

Fernando Lebeis, the son of Beta Lebeis — GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose 's personal assistant — has shot down reports that GN'R will play three private shows in Brazil and Argentina during the band's current tour of South America.

Accoording to Reuters, organizer Jamison Ernest announced on Monday that GUNS N' ROSES will play three secret gigs at undisclosed locations in Sao Paulo on Thursday and Buenos Aires on March 20. Plans were also said to be in the works for a show in Rio De Janeiro.

Ernest said each venue will hold about 150 people but declined to reveal too much information for fear of riots by uninvited guests.

In a posting on the message board of the GUNS N' ROSES fan site Here Today... Gone To Hell!, Lebeis responded to the Reuters report by stating, "Sorry, guys, there will not be three secret shows in South America."

He added, "Sorry for the confusion, some people just need to be quiet and enjoy the sun."

GUNS N' ROSES' 11-date South American tour, the band's first trek around the continent since its heyday in 1992, began on Sunday in Brasilia. Dates are on tap through April 1 in Quito, Ecuador. The band will also play Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Venezuela and Colombia.

World-renowned music video director Dale "Rage" Resteghini has announced his new collaboration with Axl Rose and GUNS N' ROSES. Rage has been hired by Axl to document and shoot stills for the band's current South American tour.

Because of his unique eye, Rage has been asked throughout the years to shoot for metal and rock magazines and bands. However, due to his extremely busy schedule, he's not had the time to focus on anything other than videos. Still photography is a long-awaited career swing for Rage as he is better known for his music video and feature film directing, but with a resume as impressive as Rage's, it is sure to be a success.

According to a press release from Adrenaline PR (Rage's publicists), Axl wants to make some videos later in the year in support of GUNS N' ROSES' latest album, "Chinese Democracy", on the same grand scope and style of classics such as "November Rain".

Commented Rage: "Axl Rose is the quintessential rock-star frontman and is all things you'd expect and some you would not expect. He is very humorous and very, very passionate about his fans and ensuring that the legacy of GN'R as being one of most incredible and best-selling rock bands in the history of music remains intact."

Resteghini was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised by blue-collar parents to whom Rage attributes his workaholic attitude. Rage is a man of many skills, as he is a sought-after director, runs his own management company called Raging Nation Management with his wife and partner, Kim, and helms his own production company. Rage also a record label imprint called Raging Nation Records, which is also run with his wife.

Since 2003 Rage has directed over 550 music videos, including clips for such metal bands as MUDVAYNE, HATEBREED, ANTHRAX, and SHADOWS FALL. Rage has also helmed videos for some of the biggest names in the hip hop world, including Lil Wayne , Diddy, Snoop Dog, and Ice Cube.

Rage's ability to do what he does stems from his youthful competitive nature and where he grew up. He does this with a chip on his shoulder with always something to prove. He says, "I was not supposed to be here. I should have been dead at least 10 different times in my life. I was arrested and in trouble a lot as a kid and not just the 'regular' little stuff and spent some real time locked up. For me to be here at this point in my life at the level of success I work in and being married to an amazing wife as well as being blessed to live where we live is an absolute dream. I did not go film school, I fight the politics of the business every day as well as break a lot of the rules and I do things my way, which is always coming from a place of wanting to do the very best job for my clients and it's that approach that has brought me all of my success and now I'm able to tour the world with a legendary band like GN'R. It's incredible and unbelievable at
once."

MEGADETH guitarist Chris Broderick has issued the following update:

"Thanks for all the birthday wishes!!

"I had a great time in Calgary [on March 6 as part of MEGADETH's tour with TESTAMENT and EXODUS].

"It's funny how in the three years I have been in MEGADETH, I have always been on tour during my birthday, and I have to say that all of you have made these times unbelievably fun (what better way to spend it then with all of my friends?).

"I am never one to really celebrate my birthday and I was hoping that no one knew but when Chuck Billy [TESTAMENT vocalist] started to bring the birthday cake up on stage, I knew I was in for it. Ahahahah.

"I now know that Dave [Mustaine, guitar/vocals], Dave [Ellefson, bass], and Shawn [Drover, drums] knew far in advance and were planning this (thanks to you all). The most hilarious part was when Chuck threw the cake into the crowd and some of the fans just let the cake rain down on them."

Matt Dalley of the Arbiter Online conducted an interview with MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson on March 2 before the band's concert at the Knitting Factory in Boise, Idaho. The 17-minute chat is now available for streaming using the audio player below.

When asked about the possibility of a reformation of MEGADETH's "Rust In Peace" lineup at some point in the future, Ellefson recently told Ultimate-Guitar.com, "There [aren't any plans for that], at least not right now. As a lot of fans probably know, Dave [Mustaine, MEGADETH mainman] worked with Nick Menza on the reformation of that lineup in 2004 and it just didn't work. For whatever reason, Nick wasn't in the head space to come back and do it, and it just didn't work. I don't know if that opportunity will ever come around again. Musically, it may at some point. Marty left the group back in 2000 because he wanted to pursue other kinds of music, and I think he's happy doing what he's doing right now. My attitude is that, if anywhere on our travels around the world, if any former member wanted to come up and jam and play a song, especially in the spirit of what Dave and I have been able to accomplish with mending fences, I think that would be a fantastic
thing. It would be really cool to see former members, even if they just came up and played one song just for old time's sake for the fans, and just began to make sure all fences are mended between members. I just think that that would be a fantastic thing, but that's just what I think. That would have to more importantly, I think, happen naturally because everybody wanted to do it, rather than forcing any type of a reunion."

MEGADETH recently commenced filming a video for the song "The Right To Go Insane" in South El Monte, California. The track comes off MEGADETH's latest album, "Endgame", which was recorded at Vic's Garage, the band's brand new, self-built studio in San Marcos, California. The CD was helmed by Mustaine and British producer Andy Sneap (EXODUS, NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY, MACHINE HEAD).

MEGADETH has joined forces with TESTAMENT and EXODUS for a month-long jaunt that finds these thrash titans crisscrossing the nation on the "Rust in Peace" twentieth anniversary tour. These are incredibly special shows that will delight MEGADETH fans, as the band is playing its landmark, genre-defining album, 1990's "Rust in Peace", in its entirety, in addition to other MEGADETH setlist favorites.

Mark Gillispie of The Plain Dealer reports that a Cleveland City Council committee on Tuesday (March 9) approved $1.2 million in loan guarantees for three planned feature-length films produced by Nehst Studios, a New York-based production company that has established an office in Cleveland.

On of the three films is "Strangeland: Disciple", the much-anticipated follow-up to "Strangeland" (1998), which TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider wrote and starred in as antagonist Captain Howdy.

The movie will be shot in Cleveland and its suburbs, said Nehst chairman Larry Meistrich. Production will begin once all the details have been finalized, he said.

Greater Cleveland is ideal for moviemaking because of its lower cost of living and its ability to stand in for a number of disparate locations, Meistrich said.

"Within 40 miles of midtown Cleveland, you can find suburbs, ghettos, farmland, sports stadiums and a waterfront," Meistrich said. "That doesn't exist in a lot of places."

In a February 2009 interview with FlickDirect, Snider stated about "Strangeland: Disciple", "'Hostel' and 'Saw' are children of 'Strangeland'. Before that, there was no torture genre; everyone was still beating the dead horse being chased and dying of 'Halloween'. The idea of being torn into had not been developed yet.

"I did a Fangoria radio show, dedicated to the world of horror; and the makers of 'Hostel' and 'Saw' would talk about how they loved 'Strangeland'. With 'Strangeland: Disciple', I'm going to take my crown back. That calls for a really intense effort on the part of the script.

"It is the graphic nature of 'Strangeland: Disciple'. It will be NC-17. We can allow ourselves to focus more on things happening to the subjects. We don't have to cut away so rapidly — so rabidly. 'R' leaves a lot to the imagination. I tend to leave a lot less to the imagination."

Regarding his decision to shoot for an NC-17 rating NC-17 from the MPAA's ratings board for "Strangeland: Disciple", Snider said, "I wanted to make the first one NC-17, but the company making the picture said, 'No, you can't. You won't get any screens. When did you last see an NC-17 movie at the multiplex?'

"There is a conservative undercurrent in this country that won't allow [this type of movie] to be seen. Their view is that the rating is to protect the public, not educate them.

"I know, from experience, that kids are buying tickets to 'Snow White ' or whatever and sneaking in to see R-rated films. So we toned down 'Strangeland'. With 'Strangeland: Disciple', we are doing the reverse of what is going on today — which is to release the R-rated movie in the theaters and then do the unrated director's cut on DVD.

"When 'The Exorcist' came out, it only showed in New York and L.A. The word spread about this insane movie. The first cut was a lot more intense, with more subliminal cuts and things like the spider-walk that got taken out of the release version. People were passing out in the theater.

"We're going to do the initial screenings with NC-17, and then a wider release at 'R.' People will be going, 'You have to see the original.'

"I'm not making an intense picture for the purpose of making an intense picture. It's reality-based. The first one was also; when I wrote it, Internet crime didn't exist. In the last movie, Captain Howdy appears to burn to death — he is on fire. When you see how he survives, people will go, 'Oh crap, I get that!' It is reality-based."

"Hoodoo", the new album from Swiss hard rock veterans KROKUS, has topped the official chart in the band's home country in its first week of release.

"Hoodoo" will receive a U.S. release on May 25 via SonyMusic Independent Network (SIN). The CD was recorded by Dennis Ward (who previously worked on KROKUS' "Hellraiser" album) at House of Music Studios in Winterbach, Germany, with additional recordings at Pink Bild and Ton (engineered by ex-KROKUS member Jürg Naegeli) in Solothurn, Switzerland and Henson Studios, Los Angeles. Photography, artwork and graphic design was handled by Martin Häusler.

"Hoodoo" track listing:

01. Drive It In
02. Hoodoo Woman
03. Born To Be Wild
04. Rock N' Roll Handshake
05. Ride Into The Sun
06. Too Hot
07. In My Blood
08. Dirty Street
09. Keep Me Rolling
10. Shot Of Love
11. Firestar

The digipack version includes a bonus DVD containing some of the "magic moments" from KROKUS' 2008 reunion concert at Stade De Suisse in Bern, Switzerland.

KROKUS's "Hoodoo Woman" can be viewed below. The clip was filmed with director Oliver Sommer, who has previously worked with APOPTYGMA BERZERK and SARAH CONNOR, among others.

Partnered with Ariola and Arista, KROKUS became an international success and ran up the charts with their hit albums "Metal Rendez-Vous" (1980), "Hardware " (1981), "One Vice At A Time" (1982), "Headhunter" (1983), "The Blitz" (1984) and "Change Of Address" (1986).

Long-running Birmingham, U.K. metallers MARSHALL LAW have cancelled their appearance at this year's Hammerfest II festival, set to take place March 11-13, 2010 at Pontins, Prestatyn Sands, North Wales, United Kingdom. The band states, "Sadly, Steve [Hauxwell, drums] has been involved in an accident whilst snowboarding in Belgium and is undergoing treatment to a fractured wrist.

"We wish to apologise to all our fans that were looking forward to seeing the band, and also to the Hammerfest promoters."

MARSHALL LAW's sixth studio album, "Razorhead", was released in November 2008 via Global Music 's imprint label DR2 Records. According to a press release, the CD was "the result of three years writing and recording and is a dark and intense journey that undoubtedly contains the bands best material to date. . . An adrenalin-infused blend of intense rhythms and massive riffs, screaming dual guitar leads and powerful vocals. Unashamedly 'metal', dark and unrelenting."

David E. Gehlke of Blistering.com recently interviewed ARMORED SAINT bassist Joey Vera. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

Blistering.com: What stoked the creative juices to do another ARMORED SAINT album?

Vera: The writing first started with John and I in late spring of 2008 and we wrote a few songs together for fun. There was no intention of doing anything. After we had written about four or five songs, we decided we should do something with this and the music was starting to sound ARMORED SAINT-ish and thought that we should turn this into an ARMORED SAINT record. We went to the other guys and everyone was into it.

Blistering.com: Do you think having such a casual approach to the band would produce something more inspired as opposed to having a record company breathing down your neck?

Vera: No question. One of the reasons that we take this long to write records is the fact is that we do it when we can find time to do it and dedicate our time to it and have it still be fun. Without any obligation to anyone, no one breathing down our neck, no managers, no labels or anyone like that trying to keep us on schedule. We don't have a schedule. There's no doubt we find it extremely liberating and we still feel like we can make honest music that way. It's not like we're trying to revitalize our career or sustain anything. We're just doing it because we love to do this. This is the only reason we're able to do it.

Blistering.com: I guess this ties into why you went on hiatus in the early '90s. Can you reflect upon how burnt out the band was around '91-'92?

Vera: You have to take into consideration we'd been together for 10 years and we did a few records for Chrysalis and we were dropped for two years. We lost our guitar player and main songwriter [Dave Pritchard, who passed away in 1990 due to leukemia]. Making "Symbol..." it took a lot for us to move forward and get that record done. At that point, by the time "Symbol" came out, heavy metal was a bad word in the U.S. The grunge thing started to take off and NIRVANA put a nail in the coffin. It was over. Although we got a lot of critical acclaim, it didn't sell, nobody bought it because interests changed. We had a hard time. It was very frustrating. At this point in the band, we're all pointing fingers at each other and at the label, at management, "It's your fault! It's your fault!" It was like...it just wasn't a fun time. That record came out in '91 and we did a bunch of touring for it, by the time tours were done, we were just done with it. I remember
the day we came back from tour. We felt like there was more life to the record, but the label came to us and told us we had to go back and start writing another record. We were like, "Fuck!" It was an uphill battle. I'd say the whole 10 years was an uphill battle.

The U.S. branch of Roadrunner Records released a story at approximately 6:03 p.m. EST today (Monday, March 8) via its official web site (and distributed through the site's official RSS feed) containing the following text (Note: The story has since been removed from the site):

"DRAGONFORCE have split with lead singer ZP Theart. The band issued the following statement regarding the matter:

"'It is with great regret that DRAGONFORCE announce a parting of the ways with singer ZP Theart. This is due to insurmountable differences of musical opinion but the rest of the band sincerely wishes ZP great success with his future projects.

"'While the creative core members have begun writing the fifth album, they have also started a worldwide search for a new vocalist.'

"'We are looking for a powerful, melodic singer to write a new chapter of DRAGONFORCE with us,' said guitarist Herman Li.

"Anyone wishing to audition for the vacant position should apply following the instructions right here."

A screenshot of the story as it appeared in Google Reader (a web-based aggregator, capable of reading Atom and RSS feeds online or offline) can be viewed below.

DRAGONFORCE's latest album, 2008's "Ultra Beatdown", sold 24,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart.

DRAGONFORCE had its first two studio albums — "Valley Of The Damned" and "Sonic Firestorm" — reissued on February 22, 2010 via Spinefarm Records U.K. Both titles were made available with updated packaging and bonus audio/DVD content, some of it exclusive to these releases.
As first reported by BLABBERMOUTH.NET yesterday, British extreme epic power metallers DRAGONFORCE have now officially confirmed the departure of lead singer ZP Theart.

"It is with great regret that DRAGONFORCE announce a parting of the ways with singer ZP Theart," the group writes in a statement. "This is due to insurmountable differences of musical opinion but the rest of the band sincerely wishes ZP great success with his future projects.

"While the creative core members have begun writing the fifth album, they have also started a worldwide search for a new vocalist."

"We are looking for a powerful, melodic singer to write a new chapter of DRAGONFORCE with us," added guitarist Herman Li.

AIRBOURNE's new album, "No Guts. No Glory.", is scheduled for release in Europe on March 8, in Canada on March 9 and in the U.S. on April 20 via Roadrunner Records.

AIRBOURNE traveled to the Windy City to record "No Guts. No Glory." with producer Johnny K, live and straight to analog tape. Like debut album "Runnin' Wild", "No Guts. No Glory." continues that good time vibe, but ultimately, according to drummer Ryan O'Keeffe, the record is about "standing up and going for it, and being a man. There's a tougher element to the album, so to speak." Instead of sleeping every night in a comfortable hotel room bed on the label's dime, the band actually slept in the studio, taking inspiration from Bruce Springsteen and his E STREET BAND, who were known to live in the studio until an album was completed.

The MELVINS will release a new album, "The Bride Screamed Murder", on June 1 via Ipecac Recordings. A U.S. tour will launch the same day in San Diego and include a stop at the Bonnaroo Festival.

I Scream Records has announced the signing of New York crossover legends LIFE OF AGONY.

On Saturday, April 3, 2010, I Scream Records will recording and film LIFE OF AGONY's performance at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, Belgium, the second show of the band's exclusive European "20 Years Strong" tour. The "20 Years Strong" live album, which will also include a free bonus DVD of the complete show at the Ancienne Belgique, exclusive footage and much more, is set for release early this summer.

In late 2009, LIFE OF AGONY performed its debut album, "River Runs Red", in its entirety during a few exclusive, sold-out, U.S. shows and now, due to popular demand, they're also heading over to Europe to play several concerts focusing on material from this amazing, legendary LP.

"We're really excited to capture this moment in time," the band's bassist, Alan Robert, said in a statement.

"Twenty years, man, that's no joke!

"If you would've asked us when we were kids growin' up in Brooklyn if we thought that we'd ever make something this important to people around the world, we probably would've laughed in your face. But here we are, still selling out shows after all this time and turning people's tragedy into hope. Somehow, through the music, we've helped a lot of folks out there. And that's what's always been most important to us."

I Scream's Laurens Kusters said: "We're very excited about this collaboration. This will be an amazing release, recorded at the Ancienne Belgique, one of the most exclusive European clubs, in Brussels Belgium, the city where I Scream Records was founded in 1994."

LIFE OF AGONY "20 Years Strong" European tour dates:

April 02 - Effenaar - Eindhoven, The Netherlands (sold out)
April 03 - Ancienne Belgique - Brussels, Belgium
April 04 - Matrix - Bochum, Germany

LIFE OF AGONY has played sporadic shows over the course of the last four years after completing its successful touring cycle for the 2005 Epic Records release, "Broken Valley".

LIFE OF AGONY frontman Keith Caputo's latest solo album "A Fondness For Hometown Scars", was released in Europe in April 2008 via Suburban Records. The CD was produced by Martyn Lenoble (JANE'S ADDICTION, DAVE GAHAN, PORNO FOR PYROS, THE CULT); mixed by Vincent Jones (SARAH MCLACHLAN, DAVID GAHAN, MORRISSEY) and Martyn Lenoble; and was mastered by George Marino at Sterling Sound in New York City.

SPOILER NYC, the New York-based punk trio featuring LIFE OF AGONY's Alan Robert on lead vocals and bass, recently uploaded two new songs — "Damaged Goods" and "Banned in 38 States" — to the band's MySpace page. The tracks come off the group's forthcoming album, "Banned in 38 States", which was recorded and mixed by Grammy Award-winning producer Ken Lewis (LENNY KRAVITZ, BEASTIE BOYS) for a 2010 release through an as-yet-undisclosed label.

Century Media Records has set a June 8 North American release date for "The Obsidian Conspiracy", the long-awaited new album from Seattle metallers NEVERMORE.

The drum tracks for "The Obsidian Conspiracy" were completed in the group's hometown of Seattle with SOILWORK guitarist Peter Wichers, who previously worked with Dane on the singer's solo debut, "Praises to the War Machine". Longtime friend and collaborator Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ARCH ENEMY, EXODUS, MACHINE HEAD) once again handled mixing duties.

The following songs (among others) were laid down during the recording sessions for the follow-up to 2005's "This Godless Endeavor":

* "Emptiness Unobstructed"
* "Without Morals"
* "And The Maiden Spoke"
* "Termination Proclamation"
* "The Obsidian Conspiracy"
* "The Blue Marble and the New Soul"
* "She Comes in Colors"
* "The Day You Built The Wall"
* "Poison Throne"
* "Beautiful Mistake"
* "The Crystal Ship" (THE DOORS cover)
* "Transmission" (THE TEA PARTY cover)

According to Dane, the song "And The Maiden Spoke" "is going to blow your minds; it's twisted, progressive lunatic fringe riffing with vicious hooklines."

He added: "These songs are full of newfound rage, lyrically and musically. Jeff Loomis has come up with some amazing new riffs that will no doubt please old and new fans alike. Also, I think the combination of Peter and Andy will result in something very, very special."

In an interview with Cerebral Metalhead, Dane said of "The Crystal Ship" cover, "THE DOORS song was not my original choice. I really wanted to do this song called 'Waiting For the Sun'.

"When I listen to songs, of course, since I'm a lyricist, I gravitate towards cover songs (for which) I admire the lyrics. Jeff [Loomis] being a guitarist, he goes for the guitar stuff that he thinks is really cool. And that's how we came on THE DOORS thing.

"'Crystal Ship', originally he [Jeff] had taken the approach of making it a little heavy. And I tried to work with it and I said, 'Jeff, I don't think this is working. I think maybe what we should try is an all-acoustic approach to the song.' And when we did it, he was like, 'Dude, you're totally right.' And he was like doing five-layered guitar parts over this.

"When people hear it, it doesn't sound like THE DOORS anymore. I think that's what people expect when we do cover songs. 'Cause we've been known to deconstruct and recreate more than one song."

Drummer Marc Reign has left German thrashers DESTRUCTION due to "personal and musical differences" caused by "tour stress," according to a statement released by the band. The group adds, "Marc will concentrate on his rock project VOLCANO and wants to keep himself open for other musical styles . He wants to thank all the DESTRUCTION maniacs worldwide and the band for all the great fun and support over all those years!"

All previously announced shows will go ahead with a replacement drummer.

DESTRUCTION is currently writing new material that will "go more back to the roots," according to bassist/vocalist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer.

"A Savage Symphony - The History Of Annihilation", the new DVD from DESTRUCTION, will be released in North America on April 13. "The Curse Of The Antichrist - Live In Agony", the most recent double live album from DESTRUCTION, was released in North America on October 13, 2009 and in Europe on September 25, 2009 via AFM Records.

Drummer Steven Sweet of California rockers WARRANT has issued the following update:

"I realize we haven't been around much lately (that's subject to physical location by the way, because if you were near any one of us... we would in fact, actually be around each other).

"We've been holed up in the studio working out the finer points of a brand-spankin'-new WARRANT album...

"HOW EXCITING!!!

"We are all really amped up (pun intended) to get the new tracks etched in stone, or on tape, or on hard drive as it is these days and out to all of your ears! No concrete release date at the moment, but word on the street is (actually, word between the five of us... mostly in our homes, not so much on the streets) we're looking forward to an early-to-mid-summer release... I guess it's safe to say.

"I am using a little bit of extra discretion by NOT leaking too much info just yet... Some nasty people still like to steal, even though they know it's just not right, and I'd hate to have to rewrite this whole thing in the off chance that some of the song titles, concepts, even the album title be stolen right out from under our very eyes should the evil-doers take a stab at breaking the eighth commandment. I will tell you that the band name is WARRANT and what we are hoping is that this album will further solidify the sound of this band as being one that is consistently awesome! Okay, that may sound a bit trite and grandiose, but I'd like to believe it's also true. We're not trying to reinvent the wheel (although infinite tread, titanium lined tubeless tires would be nice). Our hopes are that we will satisfy the cravings of every rock fan that has ever heard a WARRANT album and wished they were longer. Consider the new WARRANT sound as merely an
extension of what we've done to date with a little more seasoning behind it.

"Stylistically, the new tracks are perhaps a bit more diverse than on previous releases. Of course there's the killer ballad (do those two words really belong together?) or two, the up-tempo, slam-it-out-until-you-pass-out rockers, and some stuff that harkens back to our '70s roots. You'll know it when you hear it and it will definitely satisfy!

"With Pat Regan skilfully helming the board (you should see him, he actually does 'helm' when he mixes) as he did on 'Born Again', the sound is pure warrant and then some — thanks to the boy with the golden pipes, Robert Mason.

"We'll be sure to keep you updated as things progress, and keep checking in for new dates as they come in.

"We look forward to seeing you all this summer, wherever you are — and hopefully we'll be there too, or else you can come to us depending on how far a drive it is. Scratch that just show up and we'll have a great summer together!"

Upcoming WARRANT shows:

Apr. 23 - 37 Main - Buford, GA
Apr. 24 - Leesburg Bikefest - Leesburg, FL
Apr. 30 - Pechanga Resort & Casino - Temecula, CA
Jun. 19 - Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia, MD
Jul. 16 - Mohegan Sun Casino Wolf Den - Uncasville, CT
Jul. 24 - Dakota Rock Fest - Sioux Falls, ND

I also played a very short version of 'Sunny Side Up', which will be my new single with all profits going to Chile as well."

She adds, "My female lighting technician, Eveline, is originally from Chillan - Chile . Part of the funds raised through the concert and the single will be used to help out the orphanage were she was taken care of as a baby."

Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen is currently collaborating with James "Jim" Dooley and Slamm Andrews at Remote Control Productions in Santa Monica, California on "getting the orchestra arrangements ready" for her new solo album, "What Lies Beneath". She writes on her blog, "We are starting to discuss the mixing process with Slamm. He is going to be the one to mix all the orchestral tracks [while] other mixing engineers will mix the rock/heavy tracks."

She adds, "I have realized during this last month that some of the songs that I thought were not the strongest ones during the writing process turned out to be really good songs now when everything has been recorded. I will definitely have some trouble in choosing the ones that are going to end in the actual album. I guess it's a nice problem, though."

Turunen previously stated about "What Lies Beneath ", "The process for my second album started back in June 2008. Among the first songs that my friends and I composed at that time, a character called Naiad was born. The fantasy story of Naiad gave me the idea for the album title and for the whole album concept: 'What Lies Beneath'.

"It has been wonderful to be able to brainstorm again and decide the direction the album is going to take. I hope that you will be surprised again by my work; because that's the way I like it."

Turunen will perform a special "Classic and Divine" opera rock show with a symphonic orchestra and choir on June 12, 2010 at the Miskolc International Opera Festival at at the Miskolc Ice Hall in Miskolc, Hungary. Tarja's two-hour set will include a selection of the best-loved songs from her "My Winter Storm" solo album, classical gems, unpredictable rock covers, tracks from her career with NIGHTWISH, and songs from her upcoming album, "What Lies Beneath". She will be accompanied by her own band, a symphonic orchestra and a choir.

Turunen recently recorded three songs for a Finnish Christmas album, produced by Olli Ahvenlahti. According to Turunen, this was "a charity project for missionary workers in Finland."

Tarja's last album, "My Winter Storm", was re-released in January 2009. This double CD "extended special edition" was packed with 32 tracks, including the CD "My Winter Storm" with the addition of the song "The Seer" in its original version. The bonus disc presented several new tracks, remixes and live recordings. Among them, the new song "Enough" and "The Seer", this time featuring a duet with German rock star Doro Pesch.

Combing the complex atypical rhythms and technical precision of math rock with the sensational brutality of progressive metal, Washington D.C.'s PERIPHERY will unleash its self-titled debut on April 20 through Sumerian Records.

Founded in 2004 by guitarist Misha Mansoor, PERIPHERY seems to always be drawing from a constant stream of inspiration. To date, the band has recorded over 100 songs and continues to deliver new tracks on a regular basis, each time pushing the envelope on its compositional structures.

Taking the DIY approach to getting their music heard, PERIPHERY garnered the attention of metal fans across the globe by deciding to make all of its songs available to listeners online. Inspired by its fans' feedback and fervent requests, the band frequently adds new music and video blogs, constantly cultivating a stronger online presence.

This continuous exposure on the web, combined with a strong hometown following, provided PERIPHERY the opportunity to showcase its explosive live show and music on national tours such as Summer Slaughter, the Thrash and Burn Tour and select dates with BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, DARKEST HOUR, LAMB OF GOD and DESPISED ICON.

PERIPHERY is:

Spencer Sotelo - Vocals
Misha Mansoor - Guitar
Alex Bois - Guitar
Jake Bowen - Guitar
Tom Murphy - Bass
Matt Halpern - Drums

Springtime receives a dark lining as the long-awaited tome "The Gospel of Filth: A Bible of Decadence and Darkness" oozes its way into neighborhood and online shops worldwide on March 8, 2010.

"The Gospel of Filth" is the boldest, most comprehensive and authoritative guide to the realms of darkness and devilry ever published. Satanic priest Gavin Baddeley and CRADLE OF FILTH frontman Dani Filth take readers on a secret journey. From ancient formulae for conjuring the goddesses of hell to the latest research on the psychopathology of serial murder, no tombstone remains unturned in this wide-ranging and witty dissection of the uncanny and unholy, of the esoteric and erotic.

Music forms "The Gospel"'s entry point, but every medium, from movies and literature, to comics and computer games is considered, while authorities consulted range from Oxford academics to metal musicians as well known for their criminal records as musical ones.

Experts consulted include ex-FBI agent Robert Ressler (who first coined the term "serial killer"), psychoactive drug expert Richard Rudgley and Satanic high priest Peter Gilmore, via legendary horror film director Dario Argento, "War of the Worlds" composer Jeff Wayne, Lovecraftian artist John Coulthart, and ghost photographer Simon Marsden. "The Gospel of Filth" is also littered with exclusive interviews with member of metal bands, including SLAYER, GORGOROTH, METALLICA, HIM, DEICIDE, EMPEROR, AKERCOCKE, PARADISE LOST, THE MEADS OF ASPHODEL, TYPE O NEGATIVE, BEHEMOTH, BLACK SABBATH and more.

Subjects studied include:

* Esoteric England
* The Black Arts
* The Femme Fatale
* Dark Fairy Tales
* Gothic Romanticism
* The Mythology of Murder
* Demonic Doctrines
* Horror Film and Fiction
* Deviance and Desire
* Serial Killers
* Oblivion

Commented Dani Filth: "We were so delighted at the response to the extremely limited leather-bound 'bible' edition, especially as it was a very expensive book to produce. So much so that the publisher — Fab Press — decided to bridge the gap between this sold-out super-elite version of the 'Gospel' and the bookstore trade paperback by releasing a hardback version, only available via the site and retaining all the latter's trimmings. This has served very well to satiate the people who missed out on the strictly-limited edition and who are way too eager to read the book before it hits stores in April.

"I am very excited at the prospect of this book reaching a greater audience on its official release and I think it will surprise and bewitch a lot of people who wouldn't usually buy an occult/music tome. I can't wait! Reading this book is a much better way to spend Easter!"

"The Gospel of Filth" is distributed in America through SCB Distributors in cooperation with Fab Press and is available in other territories via Fab Press and Turnaround Publisher Services, Ltd.

The limited-edition hardcover version is exclusively available at www.fabpress.com and at www.thegospeloffilth.com and features a black-comedy-infused bonus chapter by Dani Filth.

With the news that the SMASHING PUMPKINS bassist Ginger Pooley has left the band to raise her new baby with her husband, Billy Corgan has announced that he will look for a new bassist in the same manner as he found new drummer Mike Byrne last year: via an open audition process (see below for details). Corgan also says that auditions will be held (again, see below) for a new keyboardist who is a fan of — and can play in the prog-rock style of — Jon Lord and Rick Wakeman.

Until a new bassist is found, Mark Tulin of THE ELECTRIC PRUNES — with whom Billy toured last year in SPIRITS IN THE SKY — will fill in on an interim basis.

Look for the PUMPKINS to soon announce a world tour, including dates in the U.S.

Says Ginger, who toured the world with the band in 2007 and 2008: "With sorrow and yet with much thankfulness for the opportunity to have played in the PUMPKINS, I am sad to say that I can no longer tour with the PUMPKINS.

"Although I've been blessed beyond belief over the past few years through playing with the PUMPKINS, my priority now is to keep our little family unit together, which includes my husband and my baby.

"Although I do plan on continuing to do music in different forms, my priority is for neither for my husband nor myself to be apart from our daughter so that we can raise her together.

"I wish Billy all the best and look forward to seeing the PUMPKINS in the near future. I would also like to thank all of the PUMPKINS fans for all of their support. I will see you at the PUMPKINS shows!"

Says Billy: "Although I am heartbroken that Ginger is leaving the group, I really respect her decision to put her family first. I appreciate everything that she has contributed to the SMASHING PUMPKINS, and I'm proud of her for being such a great musician and friend.

"We were lucky enough to find drummer Mike Byrne through an open audition process," Billy adds, "so why not open the doors again to anyone who might be interested for the bass or keyboard position.

"As you can see from our past and present, age, race, or a person's background is not an issue. Everyone is truly welcome to audition."

Audition info: Bassists and keyboardists looking to play with the PUMPKINS should send their background info (including age, a resume of any bands/recorded work), photos and performance web links via email only, either to pumpkinsbass@gmail.com or pumpkinskeys@gmail.com. Note: only musicians with video clips can be considered. YouTube.com-type posts are perfect — that's how Mike was found.

Final date for submission is March 31.

Daytona Beach, Florida's THE AUTUMN OFFERING has issued the following update:

"We will enter Bordur Studios [on] April 1 to begin recording our new self-titled album for Victory Records. We will self-produce, with Pete Rutcho handling mix and mastering duties.

"This record is a far more aggresive outing then our previous records. We look forward to everyone checking it out. Some new titles include 'Myriad Black', 'Death Mask' and 'Among Wolves'."

THE AUTUMN OFFERING's latest album, "Requiem", came out in June 2009 via Victory Records. The CD was recorded at AudioHammer Studios in Sanford, Florida.

Way Too Loud! recently conducted an interview with vocalist Scott Vogel and bassist David Wood of the Los Angeles hardcore/metal band TERROR. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Way Too Loud!: It sounds like you've got plans for a new album.

Scott Vogel: I wouldn't say we're in the early stages of writing, but we have a lot of stuff written, and now we're really trying to trim off the fat, and really make 'em into songs and put vocals to 'em. We have until mid-April to do the record, so we still have a few months. We'll be recording somewhere in southern California.

Way Too Loud!: What has the writing process been like?

Scott Vogel: Nick [Jett, drums] wrote the last two records. We also have a new guitarist, Jordan [Posner], who's writing some stuff because we really like what he's written, then me and Nick will go through the songs and figure out what we like and what we don't like, I'll write lyrics and put words to it, and hopefully we have a some good songs. Do that about 18 times and pick the 13 best, and put out a record! The new album should be out in the summertime.

David Wood: We're on tour all year, and we all live all over the country. Our one guitar player, Jordan, lives in Canada, and Scott and I live on the East Coast now. Since we're always on tour, we have time during the day. Nick will have a riff and he'll play it for us. He can do so much with the computer now like the fake drums. We'll mess around with it on the computer. Everybody will learn the song and we'll all give our feedback. We have some songs we really like, so we're going to record in April so we'll be in L.A. for a few weeks, practicing, getting tight and seeing how we really like them. It's evolved over time. Our old guitar player Todd [James] used to write a lot of the songs, Todd and Nick would write them together. It hasn't changed that much, it's just easier now with the technology.

Way Too Loud!: Do know who's going to produce it?

Scott Vogel: Chad [Gilbert, guitarist] from NEW FOUND GLORY.

Way Too Loud!: What brought you to him?

David Wood: Everybody is friends with him. We sat down with our manager this summer talking about the new record, and when talk of a new album came up, everybody thought of him. Since we kind of know the dude, it works out! This album will be different for TERROR. It's faster, maybe thrashier and a bit more melodic. The record is going to be called "Keepers of the Faith". I think it's going to be on a good street level, good hardcore reality. I'm really excited about it!
