[HeavyMetalHeaven] Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Primal Fear, Metallica, Uriah Heep, UFO, Accept, and tons more hard rock heavy metal news

Joel McIver of The Quietus recently conducted an interview with Rob Halford (vocals) and K.K. Downing (guitar) of British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

The Quietus: Thirty years since "British Steel", eh fellas? What does that feel like?

Rob Halford: It's hard to believe. Y'know, you're a different person in your teenage years, your 20s, your 30s, your 40s and your 50s, and whatever's to come. That has to have some kind of relation to how you treat your work. The older you get, funnily enough, things seem to get less cluttered. You've made sense of a lot of things: you don't sweat the small stuff.

K.K. Downing: It was 1980 when we did it, and we'd made a few albums by then. We weren't exactly floundering around, we were gaining momentum, but everything did lock in with "British Steel": the artwork, the songs, the stage clothes. Everything consolidated who we were and where we were going. It was almost like a rebel's almanac, for want of a better term. Audiences endeared themselves to it.

The Quietus: The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal was underway by the time "British Steel" was released. Did IRON MAIDEN make you feel that you'd better up your game?

K.K. Downing: I'd never heard of IRON MAIDEN until we were just finishing the mixes on the record, and someone told me that they were going to support us on the subsequent tour. I said, "OK, fine," and then they started to get mouthy in the press, saying they were going to blow the bollocks off JUDAS PRIEST and all this sort of stuff. I said, "I appreciate the attitude, like, but let's fuck 'em off and get somebody who appreciates us!" There was loads of bands who would have wanted that tour and appreciated it, and you just didn't need those sorts of vibes before you go out. Anyway, they did it and it was fine. I'm glad that they emerged and became a force to be reckoned with, and gained their own identity, musically, visually and in every way possible. All credit to them: they've done a fantastic job to be ambassadors of British metal all around the world.

The Quietus: Was it weird when Dave Holland, who played drums on the album, was imprisoned for the attempted rape of a teenage boy in 2004?

K.K. Downing: Yeah, it was, totally. I don't know the circumstances of everything that went on, but you know, a lot of innocent men have been hung and a lot of guilty men have gone free, and a lot in between, so I'm not gonna make any judgments at all.

The Quietus: A lot of PRIEST fans weren't keen on the operatic sound of your 2008 album "Nostradamus".

Rob Halford: It's a wonderful record, but it's a challenging record from the listener's point of view because it's an enormous amount of information. There are some fans that only want PRIEST to be "Painkiller" or "Turbo", and that's the passion that your fans have. We love our fans to death, but we're in control of our own destiny when it comes to music. That's the uniqueness of JUDAS PRIEST: we can be a band that does "Painkiller" one minute and "Nostradamus" the next. It's still PRIEST. We've never felt that being in a band was about staying in a box.

The Quietus: Will PRIEST ever spill the beans in a book?

Rob Halford: We talked about it. When people read a rock'n'roll book, they want all the stuff in it like MÖTLEY CRÜE's "The Dirt". It's perfect: it totally fits with that band and their image and their stage show. PRIEST has been nowhere near that type of lifestyle: we've certainly had our incidents, a lot of which have been documented and a lot of which have not. We're very, very private people in JUDAS PRIEST: we've always felt that anything outside of music is taboo and out of the public psyche. By the same token, in today's world, it's reality this, it's reality that, it's what's under the carpet and sniffing the laundry, and I don't think any of us in PRIEST are into it. It intrudes on the music, and the legacy and the merit and the value and the tradition and the history of the music. Why tarnish it? If everybody in the band wanted to do a warts-and-all autobiography, we'd all agree to do it. But we haven't agreed, and if we haven't agreed it's
not going to happen. I think it's tremendous that we all value each other's opinions rather than just saying, "Let's do it and make some cash." That's the way PRIEST has always worked — there's no dominating force, it's all collective.

The Quietus: Are you in a position, financially, where you could retire?

Rob Halford: Yeah, and I think that's another indication of why we do what we do. We've got the best band in the world: it would be different if the fans were falling away, but they're not, they're consistently there. You walk on stage now and you see these teenage metalheads banging their heads to PRIEST: out of all the young bands that these metalheads could relate to, they choose JUDAS PRIEST. That's a tremendous honour that they're giving you, so there's a sense of responsibility.

The Quietus: Which metal bands are going to be playing stadiums after PRIEST, MAIDEN and METALLICA have all gone?

Rob Halford: Well, that's a really good question. There are a handful of bands that have been able to go on to the level that those are on, and can do these massive world tours and sell out major-capacity venues, but will there be another JUDAS PRIEST? Will there be another METALLICA? Will there be another IRON MAIDEN? Will there be another GUNS N' ROSES? AC/DC? KISS? I don't know. All of these are still giants in the world. We came close to it with bands like SLIPKNOT and LINKIN PARK or RAMMSTEIN — there's a handful — but will they be able to maintain it for 30 or 40 years? All of those other bands that I mentioned, even METALLICA's been around since 1981. Maybe it doesn't matter, I don't think it really does. The main thing is that heavy metal dominates completely in every part of the world, and it's reassuring. Heavy metal is everywhere and it will never die. You have to appreciate that the music is bigger than you are.

British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN will perform an exclusive show in Italy at the Villa Manin nr Udine as part of their "The Final Frontier World Tour" on August 17. MAIDEN vocalist Bruce Dickinson is planning a BruceAir excursion from London's Gatwick Airport, so keep checking IronMaiden.com for details which will be announced as soon as possible.

The majestic ensemble of Villa Manin, located in Codroipo in the province of Udine, is one of the most important artistic Italian monuments. Commissioned in the 17th century by Ludovico Manin to celebrate the wealth and power of the Manin family, it was the family's country house. At the end of the 18th century, under the reign of the last doge of Venice, Ludovico Manin (1789-1898), Napoleon Bonaparte chose this regal residence as the General Headquarters of the French troops stationed here in 1797 during the Italian campaign. The new order he was later to impose on the whole of Europe was planned here. It was in the rooms of the Doge's residence that the important negotiations which were to culminate in the "Treaty of Campoformido" (October 17, 1797) were held, thus marking the end of the Republic of Venice to the benefit of the Hapsburg Empire.

What a perfect location for MAIDEN's triumphant return to Italy in their first show there since Bologna in 2008!

A special guest will be announced soon.

HALFORD guitarists "Metal" Mike Chlasciak and Roy Z. will each separately join German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR on stage for a "jam" on May 20 at the Blender Theatre in New York City and June 8 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California, respectively.

As previously reported, singer Pamela Moore — who is best known for her performance as Sister Mary on QUEENSRŸCHE's 1988 epic release "Operation: Mindcrime" and 2006's sequel "Operation: Mindcrime II" — will perform with PRIMAL FEAR as a special guest at all shows on their "The Fear Is Here" North American tour. Pamela will also host special meet-and-greet/soundcheck parties at select venues.

For a list of dates, visit PRIMAL FEAR's MySpace page.

PRIMAL FEAR is currently putting together a new DVD, "16.6 – All Over The World", to be released in June via Frontiers Records. The bulk of the set will be composed of footage from the 2009 concerts in Switzerland and Atlanta, Georgia, with additional material from Japan, Colombia, Brazil, Germany and Sweden. The band says, "[We] still [have] a long way to go [before completing the DVD], but it will be a killer package, including the first official live CD of PRIMAL FEAR, 'Live In The USA', recorded in Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York." The group adds, "Achim Köhler is already working on the mix of the audio stuff." A European tour in support of the new DVD and live DVD will take place in the fall.

"16.6 (Before The Devil Knows You're Dead)", the latest album from PRIMAL FEAR, was released in Europe on May 22, 2009 and was made available in the U.S. in early June 2009 via Frontiers Records.

"16.6 (Before The Devil Knows You're Dead)" was recorded at House Of Music studios in Winterbach, Germany with Dennis Ward and Achim Köhler. The CD marks the group's first release with Magnus Karlsson (ALLEN/LANDE, STARBREAKER), who replaced Stefan Leibing last year. Returning guitarist Henny Wolter and Karlsson participated in the songwriting and pre-production, which took place at Karlsson's Stuntguitar Studio in Sweden. The band spent four weeks at House Of Music recording the effort, which was mastered by Ted Jensen at the Sterling Sound in New York City.

Jay Warren of WSLS.com reports: Dan and Gil Harrington appeared Wednesday (March 16) in front of one of the last places their daughter was seen alive, UVA's John Paul Jones Arena .

They had a very clear message with Gil Harrington telling reporters, "There's still evil afoot in this town."

There were several new developments from Wednesday's news conference. The Harringtons say their daughter, Morgan, was bleeding the night she disappeared and that she was still refused re-entry into the METALLICA concert.

"I'm not concerned about the no re-entry policy," Dan Harrington said. "I can understand that. I guess what I don't understand is that the reports that Morgan, as she was leaving the building was bleeding and on multiple attempts attempted to get into the building and yet no one attended to her."

Wolf Hoffmann (guitar), Peter Baltes (bass) and Mark Tornillo (vocals) of reformed heavy metal legends ACCEPT will guest on KNAC.COM's "The Vault" this Sunday, March 21 at 11:30 a.m. PST with host DJ Will.

To listen to the program live via the Internet, go to www.knac.com.

Following their eagerly awaited return to the live stage at the almost-sold-out Gramercy Theatre in New York City, ACCEPT will be heading to Europe to perform special shows in carefully handpicked venues in various European capitals.

ACCEPT has chosen to play these publicity concerts in small, intimate settings to get close to its longtime fans.

After a decade-long absence, ACCEPT wants to make this a special "thank you" to its European fans, who will be able to attend specially arranged meet-and-greet sessions at each of these shows. In addition, the band will be available for autograph sessions, photo opportunities and interviews during this short trek.

Confirmed dates so far are as follows:

May 08 - New York, NY - Gramercy Theater
May 11 - Vilnius, Lithuania - Forum Palace
May 14 - Moscow, Russia - B1 Maximum
May 15 - St. Petersburg, Russia - Lensoveta Theater
May 18 - Helsinki, Finland - Virgin Oil Co.
May 20 - Stockholm, Sweden - Debaser Slussen
May 22 - Gelsenkirchen, Germany - Rock Hard Festival
May 23 - Uden, Netherlands - De Pul
May 24 - Paris, France - Le Bataclan
May 26 - London, UK - Islington O2 Academy

Rumors surrounding these shows have started to pop up all over the Internet due to the exceptionally high anticipation around the world to hear and see the new ACCEPT lineup — featuring the band's latest addition, vocalist Mark Tornillo (ex-TT QUICK) — perform.

In an effort to keep the arrangements a surprise for the fans, ACCEPT has had a difficult time lining up these concerts. Only one or two shows per country will be finalized and not all nations will be included as ACCEPT has a very limited amount of time available before it focuses on promoting its upcoming comeback album.

Following the CD's release and the intimate European "fan-focused" shows, preparations for a full-fledged world tour will start this summer.

"We can't wait to go out and play again," said bassist Peter Baltes. "Just because [former ACCEPT singer] Udo Dirkschneider isn't available to take part in the reunion doesn't mean we'll have to sit idle any longer. We feel Mark is the perfect fit. Mark is an experienced veteran singer who is aware of the ACCEPT legacy and his voice fits the sound of ACCEPT perfectly.

"Wolf [Hoffmann, guitar] and I have always been the songwriting team — most of the classic ACCEPT tunes were written that way; together with Deaffy, a.k.a. Gaby Hoffmann, as a lyricist."

ACCEPT recently completed recording its new album, tentatively titled "Blood Of Nations", at Backstage Studio in Derbyshire, England with acclaimed British producer and SABBAT guitarist Andy Sneap (MEGADETH , EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE). The CD — which will mark the recording debut of Tornillo — will include around 14 tracks and be released before the summer via an as-yet-undetermined record label. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "The Abyss", "Shades Of Death", "Blood Of Nations", "Pandemic" and "Teutonic Terror".

BLABBERMOUTH.NET in December uploaded exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions for the new ACCEPT album. The six-and-a-half-minute clip, which includes interview footage with Sneap and members of the band, as well as audio samples of the group's new material, can be viewed below.

Regarding Tornillo's addition to ACCEPT, Hoffmann previously said, "It all happened in minutes. Peter and I were working on some tunes in a studio in New Jersey. Somebody suggested we give this guy Mark a call to see if he would join us on vocals. So when he arrived we started jamming on some old ACCEPT tunes — just for fun. As soon as Mark started singing we looked at each other and realized the impossible just happened: we found a new voice for ACCEPT! The timing could not have been better! Now or never... We are re-energized and excited..."

TT QUICK was a popular club band during the 1980s in the New York and New Jersey area and was known for the guitar work of David Dipietro and the powerful vocals of Mark Tornillo. Dipietro's skills were especially singled out as he had given lessons to both Zakk Wylde of the OZZY OSBOURNE band and SKID ROW's Dave Sabo.

TT QUICK disbanded and later reunited sporadically and released a few more albums, including a live CD from one of their reunion gigs ("Thrown Together Live") and a studio effort, "Ink", which came out in 2000.

ACCEPT 2010 is:

Wolf Hoffmann: Guitar
Peter Baltes: Bass
Herman Frank: Guitar
Mark Tornillo: Vocals
Stefan Schwarzmann: Drums

Video footage of ACCEPT's recent appearance on VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show" can be viewed below.

make a video of themselves performing "Heartkiller" between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.
ET and upload it to the HIM's YouTube channel within 24 hours beginning at 10
p.m. ET to be entered into an official contest at which time the members of HIM
will choose the Top 5 best performance videos. The band is asking fans to film
their performances and post them at the same time in order to set the world
record for the largest global Rock Band performance ever. (Videos should be
tagged "Official HIM Rock Band Entry.")

The contest's winners will receive a copy of the Rock Band 2 music video game,

"Death Magic Doom", the latest album from CANDLEMASS, debuted at No. 79 on the
Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums
by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the
Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Death Magic Doom" entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 52.
The group's previous CD, "King of the Grey Islands", debuted at No. 83 back in
June 2007.

CANDLEMASS bassist/songwriter Leif Edling previously stated about "Death Magic
Doom", "The songs [on the new album] are about immortality, depressions, demons,
vampires, funerals and the almighty devil that we all know very well. I love the
way we perform here. Rob's singing and Lasse's [Lars Johansson, guitar] soloing
are nothing but amazing!! The production is also outstanding! The name 'Death
Magic Doom' captures it perfectly! Great name! Love it! It is very suitable for
an album of this magnitude AND it also describes what CANDLEMASS is about;
Heavy, hard, epic, colossal metal!!! I would say that 'Death Magic Doom' is the
best album we have done since 'Nightfall' [1987]!! In all, [the LP contains]
nearly 50 minutes of bone-crushing and mind-blowing doom metal!!"

CANDLEMASS was among the five final nominees that competed for the "Best Hard
Rock" honor at the Swedish Grammis awards, which was held January 15, 2010 at
Münchenbryggeriet in Stockholm. The bands are all nominated for their most
recent releases, all of which came out during 2009.

SUICIDE WAR, the hardcore/metal/thrash hybrid from New Orleans, Louisiana
featuring two members of VALUME NOB â€" Frey Thieler on guitar and Sammy Molina
on bass â€" alongside BLACK LABEL SOCIETY/ex-CROWBAR drummer Craig Nunenmacher
and vocalist Ben Falgoust (GOATWHORE, SOILENT GREEN), has issued the following
update:

"Yes!! It is true.... Kirk [Windstein; DOWN, CROWBAR] will be doing vocal duties
alongside Ben in SUICIDE WAR. He will also be filling the bass duties, if and
when SUICIDE WAR plans to do some shows.

"I know some people are expecting his signature CROWBAR-style vocals, but he has
approached this project from a completely different angle.

"We are so pleased and thankful to have Kirk involved with this project.

"We hope all the fans appreciate what we are trying to accomplish with this
beast, and we promise you all won't be let down!!"

SUICIDE WAR last fall tapped engineer Eddie Mapp (STONE TEMPLE PILOTS,
EVANESCENCE, PAPA ROACH, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE) to mix some of the
band's recordings.

Teaser tracks featuring guitar, bass and drums have been posted on the band's
MySpace page.

SUICIDE WAR is:

Frey Thieler (VALUME NOB) - Guitar
Craig Nunenmacher (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, ex-CROWBAR) - Drums
Sammy Molina (VALUME NOB) - Bass
Ben Falgoust (SOILENT GREEN, GOATWHORE) - Vocals
Kirk Windstein (DOWN, CROWBAR) - Vocals
Guitarist/vocalist Mikael Ã…kerfeldt of Swedish progressive metallers OPETH has
issued the following update:

"Quite interesting to see how diverse the reactions have been to our last song,
'The throat of Winter', that we recorded to be included on a disc coming with
the 'God of War 3' game. Everything from 'loving it' to 'hating it' to juvenile
'meh' comments.

"I'm happy we've caused some reactions at least, rather raise a taste-agenda
than a shrug.

"It's quite clear to me that some have yet to understand what this band is
about. Some say the song doesn't 'fit' the game, as if we'd ever, in our career,
been interested in fitting in. Sorry! I was asked to write an OPETH song, and
that's what I did. Couldn't care less if we fit in or not.

"At this point I'm complete and utterly bored with new streamlined music. Bored
to tears by conventional metal arrangements. I think the future album will be
more or less devoid of any fluid writing. It will be all over the place I guess,
because that's what I and ultimately OPETH as a band find interesting these
days. I want it to be fucked up! I've written a 10-minute-plus piece so far and
it's miserable sounding (in a good way, for me at least) and quite disturbing.
Don't know whether it will make the final cut, but it's certainly set the tone
for what type of music I want to write right now.

"I can't foresee what you as 'fans' will think of anything we put out anymore. I
stopped wondering after 'Damnation' got hate-bombed, so we'll just have to wait
and see I guess.

"I certainly appreciate all your support during the years. Sorry I can't commit
to pleasing you all, but as we all know it simply doesn't work like that.

"I'm happy, just wrote some lovely music with a friend and it opened my eyes
somewhat. This music might come across as un-focused, but it's really crystal
clear.

"20th anniversay shows are round the corner. We're rehearsing and it's quite fun
(for a change), been revisiting some old material and it sounds just 'right!'
Looks like all six shows will sell out, which is nice… Four have sold out
already. Appreciate that you wanna come and see us. What was going to be a quiet
celebration in a pub escalated to six of the biggest shows we've ever done on
our own. I mean, it's the fucking Royal Albert Hall, among others. Stupid!!

"OK, listening to a mono copy of 'The Beatles' (white album). Quite a different
experience really! What an album! Stupid! (X2)."

MYSTIC PROPHECY mainman/producer R.D. Liapakis has joined forces with STRATOVARIUS drummer Jörg Michael in a brand new side project called DEVIL'S TRAIN.

Having spent a month together on the road earlier this year as part of the "Polaris" tour, Liapakis and Michael decided to explore their common love of '80s hard rock/heavy metal by putting together an "old-school heavy/hard rock" band.

DEVIL'S TRAIN is a project Liapakis has been working on with Greek guitarist Lakis Ragazas for the past year and as soon as Michael heard it, he asked to become part of it as the group's drummer.

DEVIL'S TRAIN's as-yet-untitled debut album will be recorded at Prophecy and Music Factory studios and the production will be handled by Liapakis and Christian Schmid. A tentative late summer/early fall release is expected.

Commented Liapakis: "I am rock and roll down to my veins and I always had diverse influences in my music, a great part of which are expressed in the music I write with MYSTIC PROPHECY. However, the style of music I have been preparing for DEVIL'S TRAIN with Lakis Ragazas isn't the style that would fit MYSTIC PROPHECY and this is why I decided to initiate a side band. Luckily, other people with whom I have common musical background share my vice for rock 'n' roll and Jörg, as I found out when we toured together last January, is one of them. None of us is less of a member on our bands, we just want to have a rock 'n' roll party on the side!"

Jason Rullo of North America's progressive metal gods SYMPHONY X is scheduled to enter the studio today (Thursday, March 18) to begin laying down the drum tracks for the band's next studio album, tentatively due mid-2010 via their new record label, Nuclear Blast Records. The band's

SYMPHONY X guitarist Michael Romeo recently stated about the group's new material, "I put together some pre-production mixes for us to listen to, and it's all solid.

"We have over an hour of really good stuff that we really dig; there's more than enough stuff there that we can choose the best songs to go on the CD... but all of the songs are really strong. And there are two almost-done songs that we're going to try to wrap up in the next few days as well. One is shaping up to be 10 minutes plus.

"It's really cool stuff that we gotta use.
"I think everyone will like it," Romeo concluded. "It has a little bit of everything."

On November 4, 2008, InsideOut Music released a special 5.1 edition of SYMPHONY X's critically acclaimed album "Paradise Lost". The double-disc package includes a DVD 5.1 mix by Jens Bogren of the entire album as well as two enhanced HD videos for "Set the World on Fire" and "Serpent's Kiss".

Maximum Metal recently conducted an interview with CRIMSON GLORY guitarist Jon Drenning about the making of the band's classic 1988 album "Transendence". A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On the plans for the band to release an anthology box set and the long-awaited follow-up to 1999's "Astronomica":

"Companies that we licensed our materials to have never paid us any royalties, and then they re-licensed our materials to additional companies illegally, which we have never been paid for, either. It's a mess and a true disgrace for us to have been treated this way, and one of the main reasons why we haven't recorded more albums. We feel that no matter what we do, our materials will be illegally sold and distributed by companies that don't have the legal right to do so. It has been extremely disheartening for us and makes us wary of trusting anyone...There [are] various demos that have never been released, as well as a few unreleased songs that were demoed as well. Hopefully these will all be released for the band's 25th anniversary in 2011".

On what he remembers most about "Transendence" and the time they spent creating it:

"Making 'Transcendence' was a great time for us; we spent a tremendous amount of time together rehearsing, writing and arranging the songs. Midnight [vocals] was really at the top of his game; we had a lot of fun in the studio recording late into the night. We wanted to make a record that would withstand the test of time, something that would be truly special. We knew our fans were anticipating something great and we didn't want to let anybody down. We didn't want to do anything that wasn't going to be outstanding and memorable. Everyone worked really hard on that record, everyone in the band truly shone and I think we all knew that [we] were creating something truly special and long-lasting."

Norwegian singer Liv Kristine Espenaes Krull (LEAVES' EYES, ex-THEATRE OF TRAGEDY) has completed work on her new solo album, "Skintight", due later in the year via Napalm Records. She states, "In January, the production at Mastersound Studio was completed and the artwork finished by Stefan Heilemann.

"It has been a fantastic experience to evolve during the recording process.

"Tori Amos gave me a lot of inspiration in the way she records her songs.

"My main aim is to release an album which goes directly under your skin, and into your hearts. Being authentic, but perhaps not flawless, is the philosophy I follow artistically. It is not necessary to tune and shape a singing voice when it comes from the heart, from deep within. This is why I chose the title 'Skintight'.

"Most recordings were done 'in one go,' i.e. record a complete song without breaks. Moreover, we've kept and paid attention to the natural processes which take place during singing, like breathing, movements of the lips, emotional expression and strength etc. All this makes the album authentic, real, and direct. The music is played with only a few, however, original instruments.

"[It is] a very down-to-earth album, and absolutely 'real,' like as if you were sitting next to me and I would sing a song to you.

"All songs have been written by Torsten Bauer, and myself. [Liv's husband] Alexander Krull [ATROCITY, LEAVES' EYES] produced the album.

"My lyrics tell about my childhood ('One of Them', 'Wonders'), and my observations of the fast, cold, superficial and grey society of the masses ('The Rarest Flower', 'Boy at the Window').

"'Skintight' is dedicated to the children of this world — our future. Children embody real, true and endless love; love towards nature, and love between human beings.

"This is an album which will open your hearts.

Kristine released her sophomore solo album, "Enter My Religion", in March 2006 via Roadrunner Records. The follow-up to 1998's "Deus ex Machina" was produced by Alexander Krull (ATROCITY, LEAVES' EYES) at Mastersound Studio in Stuttgart/Fellbach, Germany. The album artwork was handled by Meran Karanitant. A video for the track "Fake a Smile", taken from "Enter My Religion", can be viewed below. The clip was produced by AVA Studios (who has previously worked with SARAH CONNOR and JEANNETTE) and was directed by Alexander Diezinger.

Godfathers of Swedish modern metal SOILWORK will embark on a North American headlining tour this summer with San Francisco Bay Area thrash legends DEATH ANGEL. Joining them will be Quebec's tech-death masters AUGURY, Roadrunner Records recording artists MUTINY WITHIN, and pirate-themed thrashers SWASHBUCKLE.

Commented SOILWORK vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid: "We are stoked to tour with the most vicious thrashers from the west, famous for their gin drinking and intense live shows. DEATH ANGEL is a classic band that we've wanted to tour with for a long time. A perfect fit for the bill and surely an awesome touring companion. The summer of mosh is upon us. Don't miss out!"

Added DEATH ANGEL frontman Mark Osegueda: "I can't begin to tell you how excited we are about the upcoming tour!

"I first heard SOILWORK on a Nuclear Blast promo compilation and they stood out from the first listen. The riffs, the drumming, and Björn's vocal attack! Then we were fortunate enough to play with them at With Full Force festival a few years back and they killed it live!

"As fate would have it, I was asked to participate in a Nuclear Blast 20-year anniversary compilation album called 'Out of the Dark', which Peter Wichers wrote the music for. I wrote the lyrics and melody for a song on that compilation called 'My Name Is Fate'! Peter actually was also the producer, so I was fortunate enough to get to work with him in the studio!

"What a brilliant guy and and a great musician and now that he is back in the fold SOILWORK is back on top of their game.

"I think the musical styles and live performances of both bands will make every show on this tour a show not to be missed by any true fan of HEAVY music! So don't just hear about the aftermath, experience it for yourself!"

SHADOWSIDE's headlining appearance this Saturday (March 20) at the Rock Feminino Festival in Rio Claro, Brazil will be broadcast live via the Cidade Livre TV web site starting at 9 p.m. local time (GMT -3).

The seventh edition of the Rock Feminino Festival celebrates International Women's Day (March 8). Bands from all over the country will perform at the event, which will also feature expositions, workshops, lectures and a Guitar Hero championship. Promoters are expecting over 3,000 people at the festival, which is being hosted by musician and former MTV VJ Thunderbird.

SHADOWSIDE frontwoman Dani Nolden recently told AOL's Noisecreep about the band's mix of straight-ahead metal with prog and a hint of the '80s, "We didn't want to be a generic act. We didn't want to be a pre-conceived formula of any other style or genre. We love IRON MAIDEN and sometimes we are gonna sound like them a little bit, because heavy metal can't go too far from that. But we didn't want to sound like a copy or another band you can hear anywhere else. We decided it would be better and try to succeed our way."

"Dare to Dream", the latest album from SHADOWSIDE, was released in May 2009 through LCM/Radar Records. The CD's cover was designed by Brazilian artist Jobert Mellow, who previously worked with the band on the American edition of SHADOWSIDE's debut album, "Theatre of Shadows" (2007).

"Dare to Dream" was produced and mixed by Dave Schiffman (SYSTEM OF A DOWN, AUDIOSLAVE, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) at LCM Studio in Sao Paulo, Brazil and was mastered by Howie Weinberg (AEROSMITH, IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA, PANTERA) at Masterdisk in New York.

"People would listen to us and say, 'Where's the other singer, what happened to him?' There was never another singer in SHADOWSIDE but me!" Nolden told Noisecreep. "Even other musicians expect us to sound like NIGHTWISH and EVANESCENCE, and we show up and play heavy metal; in-your-face stuff, and they always go, 'Wow, I didn't know a girl could like you could sound like that!' People are still not used to seeing a female front a metal band."

FIREBIRD, the British power trio led by CARCASS/ex-NAPALM DEATH guitarist Bill Steer, is currently mastering its new album, tentatively titled "Double Diamond", for a summer 2010 release. The CD features ten songs recorded at Graveland studios in 's-Graveland, Holland during January.

FIREBIRD last fall parted ways with bassist Smok Smoczkiewicz "due to personal reasons." Following his departure, Australia's Tom Sutton was drafted in to play bass with the group for a landmark appearance at Loud Park festival in Tokyo. A week later FIREBIRD performed on the main stage at Damnation Festival in Leeds, this time with Terry Waker handling bass duties. The year was rounded off with a Swedish tour, featuring initially Tom Sutton on bass and then Greyum May, formerly of THE BLACK HAND.

FIREBIRD's fifth album, "Grand Union", was released in the U.S. on June 23, 2009 via Rise Above Records' new North American distribution deal with Metal Blade. The CD, which came out in Europe on April 20, 2009, was recorded and mixed over a two-week period in May 2008 at Berno studios in Malmö, Sweden where FIREBIRD's second album, 2001's "Deluxe", was conceived.

Check out songs from the album on the band's MySpace page.

Canadian all-girl metal band KITTIE will support INSANE CLOWN POSSE on a U.S. tour in May/June. Also scheduled to appear on the bill are COOLIO, NECRO and KOTTONMOUTH KINGS.

KITTIE stated in a February 25 tweet about the upcoming trek, "Finally a band with enough balls to take us on tour!"

May 09 - Memphis, TN @ The New Daisy Theatre
May 10 - Dallas, TX @ The Palladium Ballroom
May 13 - Louisville, KY @ InnPlace Hotel and Conference Center
May 14 - Milwaukee, WI @ The Rave
May 16 - Columbus, OH @ Lifestyle Communities Pavilion
May 19 - Philadelphia, PA @ Electric Factory
May 20 - Baltimore, MD @ Pier Six Concert Pavilion
May 21 - Worcester, MA @ The Palladium
May 22 - Worcester, MA @ The Palladium
May 24 - Cleveland, OH @ Nautica Pavilion
May 26 - Minneapolis, MN @ The Cabooze

May 31 - Morrison, CO @ Red Rocks
Jun. 01 - Magna, UT @ Saltair
Jun. 03 - Spokane, WA @ Knitting Factory Concert House
Jun. 07 - Anaheim, CA @ Grove of Anaheim

In a recent interview with RockMusicStar.com, KITTIE guitarist/vocalist Morgan Lander stated about the band's touring plans, "We have some stuff that's coming down the pipe right now. But nothing is 100% confirmed, so I really can't give you any guarantee. But expect to see us out on a touring, festival kind of tour in July and August. And there's some other things as well, that hopefully will be happening in September. But with this industry, you don't really know if it's actually going to happen or not, until you are standing on the stage. It's crazy."

KITTIE's latest album, "In The Black", sold around 3,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 132 on The Billboard 200 chart.

KITTIE's previous CD, "Funeral for Yesterday", opened with 9,000 units back in February 2007 to land at No. 101.

"In The Black" was made available in Europe on October 23, 2009 via Germany's Massacre Records.

Regarding KITTIE's new video, "Sorrow I Know", Morgan Lander recently told AOL's Noisecreep, "We are a metal band, but as women, we wanted to do a role-playing, dress-up video. All of our videos have always been us in the live setting, with some storyline. We wanted more costume-y video, with a little more movie feel. . . We had the idea for the 1920s, with a speakeasy concept. We thought about it for quite some time and brought it to Dave Brodsky, who directed it, so the search began for some authentic-looking speakeasy. We found a place in New York called The Back Room, which is a 'members-only' place, and we got to rent it out for the day. They still serve all of their drinks in tea cups, prohibition style, and we did a casting call for the extras and our fans and kids from message board came out. People flew from Florida and all kinds of places to be in it. The makeup and hair took a long time, since the styles of the day were complicated."

Berlin, Germany's PitCam Production conducted an interview with KITTIE when the group played in Berlin on January 6, 2010. Watch the chat below.

Florida-based death metal veterans MORBID ANGEL have issued the following update:

"World Management and MORBID ANGEL would like to let the fans know that rumors about Pedro 'Pete' Sandoval's [drums] back surgery are, in fact, true. Pete has suffered for a long time with a deteriorating disc problem. He was in daily pain and needed to have this done. He has recently been treated by a laser back surgery specialist in Tampa, Florida. He is currently in rehabilitation and doing well.

"Pete is part of our family and the band's history and we all wish him well and a full recovery. Unfortunately, this type of injury, subsequent surgery and rehab cannot be rushed and it will take ample time for him to hopefully be back behind his drums again and out on tour with MORBID ANGEL.

"The band is moving forward on their next recording with Tim Yeung (DIVINE HERESY, ALL THAT REMAINS, NILE, HATE ETERNAL, VITAL REMAINS).

"Currently the guys are in rehearsals in Tampa putting their finishing touches on the songs for the new album, which is slated for [release via Season Of Mist] later this year, with subsequent touring worldwide."

Professionally filmed video footage of MORBID ANGEL's entire June 27, 2009 performance at the Rock al Parque festival at Parque Simon Bolivar in Bogota, Colombia can be viewed at this location. A clip of the new song "Nevermore" is available below. (Note: The footage originally aired on Colombia's Canal Capital.)

MORBID ANGEL guitarist Trey Azagthoth last year spoke to Revolver magazine about the band's upcoming album, which will mark the Florida-based group's first release to feature bassist/vocalist David Vincent since 1995's "Domination".

"We played the new song 'Nevemore' on the last tour and that kind of shows where our heads are at," he said. "I'd say it's like an assemblage of all sorts of stuff from the catalog and some new influences. I listen to a lot of hardcore [techno] music now — the fuckin' serious, artistic stuff, not that crap you hear at the clubs. That stuff has impact and it's really extreme. Even if there's no guitar in it or no real drums, the energy coming out of the speakers is amazing."

When asked who's going to be producing the album, Azagthoth replied, "All I can say is, when it's ready, it's going to be extreme and outside the box. And, hopefully, the songs will inspire people to look deeper inside themselves for 'the stuff' and to tap that potential that we as human beings have."

Although MORBID ANGEL's upcoming album does not currently have a name, its title will likely begin with the letter "I", in keeping with the band's tradition of titling their albums in alphabetical order beginning with 1989's "Altars of Madness", and continuing through "Heretic".

"A lot of people around the world have come up with titles that they thought it would be," David Vincent told Norway's "Tinitus" radio show in an interview that aired in June 2008. "There is no title yet — we've not decided on it. We've not decided whether it's going to continue following the alphabet or not. So anything that you hear or read on the Internet is totally speculation by anyone."

MORBID ANGEL played its first show with new touring guitarist, ZYKLON's longtime axemeister Destructhor (a.k.a. Thor Anders Myhren), on June 22, 2008 at the Hellfest in Clisson, France.

Regarding Destructhor's addition to the band's touring lineup, Vincent said, "We had a fairly long audition process. We looked long and hard at this. We decided when we began this process that it was gonna be a unanimous decision. We had several people [apply for the job] — very good players from, really, all over the world — and we got a video from Thor — the same video that we asked from all the different players; the same two songs — and some people didn't get past the initial discussion stage, and then some people went on to the next stage and it ended up that the band unanimously felt that Thor would be the best guitarist for the band."

Scotland's Aphelion Productions will release a couple of old AUTOPSY-related projects in late March. First up is a compilation of DOOMED. This band consisted of Chris Reifert (drums, vocals) and Danny Coralles (guitar) from AUTOPSY along with the Boogieman. The CD contains both seven-inch EPs they released (for Peaceville collectors' club and Relapse) along with a bonus live track they would often do as an encore at AUTOPSY shows. All tracks appear on CD for the first time. Also due for release at the same time is a compilation of the band FUNERAL from California. This band was formed by Eric Cutler (guitar) after AUTOPSY split along with sometimes AUTOPSY/DEATH member Steve Digorgio. The CD contains the never-released demo from 1996 and a rare instrumental rehearsal from the same year of tracks done after the demo. The material is in a similar vein to "Fiend For Blood" and "Acts Of The Unspeakable", with Eric's trademark creepy riffs and gloomy
atmosphere throughout. Both releases come with booklets containing lyrics, liner notes, rare photos, etc.

Former EMPEROR vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn will play a one-off headlining show in the U.K. on Thursday, August 19 at the London Camden Electric Ballroom.

"After", the new studio album from Ihsahn, sold around 900 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 31 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"After" was released on January 26 via Candlelight Records.

An e-card for the CD can be accessed at this location.

Recorded during the first half of 2009, "After" completes the musician's planned trilogy of initial recordings. The CD showcases the Norwegian icon with drummer Asgeir Mickelson (SPIRAL ARCHITECT), bassist Lars K. Norberg (SPIRAL ARCHITECT), and saxophonist Jorgen Munkeby (SHINING).

"This is my first album written with eight-string guitars as basis which has been both challenging and inspiring," Ihsahn stated about the creative process. "I also decided early on that I wanted to mix this album with Jens Bogren (OPETH, KATATONIA) and recorded the album with that in mind. Asgeir and Lars have again delivered superb performances. I've always wanted to implement the saxophone in my music ; Jorgen's contributions truly added a silver lining to the album."

Recorded at Ihsahn's own Symphonique Studio, with additional work at Toproom Studio (co-engineered by Borge Finstad), "After" was meticulously laid out over an eight-month period. The intensity of the project has more than paid off with early listenings already proclaiming it to be the most poignant creations of his solo efforts. "I have felt more confident and more at ease with the material," relays Ihsahn. "In letting the songs themselves lead the way I just followed the natural impulses."

"After" track listing:

01. The Barren Lands
02. A Grave Inversed
03. After
04. Frozen Lakes On Mars
05. Undercurrent
06. Austere
07. Heavens Black Sea
08. On The Shores
